Content

We're in the thick of it now! The range of releases is starting to ramp up rapidly now, but we're still a very small team with some vacations to factor in, so please bear with us as we work through games, prioritise them and maybe even delay coverage or skip some. We're looking to allocate time for Lies of P, while we're still waiting for The Crew Motorfest before we decide if/when we cover them.

Please also bear in mind that it might seem as if we're prioritising less important games over more important games, when the truth actually is that #content takes time to finish, and we may not have had 'the more important game' when worked started on 'the less important game'. Hope that's all clear!

* Rich (ie me) is looking to circle back and polish off the RX 7800 XT video review and it might finally be time to get all of those Tegra T239/Switch 2 leaks and rumours together with testing of an actual low wattage Ampere-based GPU. Radeon first, though. It's a good product and deserves a video review, even if it's late.

* Alex is working on embargoed content, but will be taking a quick look at Jedi Survivor on PC after its new patch. This is unlikely to be a full video, but will be part of the next Direct.

* John is delivering Forza Motorsport content this week - something a little different but very special. After that, he's looking to complete a smaller project before taking a well-earned vacation.

* Oliver continues to be super-busy! He's finishing up work on the Jedi Survivor patch as it plays out on the current generation consoles, and will be telling us all about FSR 2 on Switch No Man's Sky, which seems to have been dramatically improved from launch.

* Tom is away on vacation this week, but if you missed it on Saturday, he's already handed in a video in advance - the Xbox One/Xbox Series analysis of prior PlayStation exclusive, Stray.

There's quite a bit going on in the background here and lots of embargoed content being lined up, so there are limitations on what we can can discuss at the moment, but this might be a bit more of a 'quiet' week compared to the mega-drops of the last - should still be good though!

Do let us know of anything that's caught your eye that we feel we should take a look at - and I hope you all have a fantastic week!

the switch is maybe the only place i'd be excited to see FSR 2. rly interested to see that video also shoutout to oliver in general for covering interesting fringe stuff like that, or ray tracing on series s, etc

(i say the FSR 2 thing as someone who's currently playing Starfield on Series S and would genuinely rather play at a native 900p than an artifact-ridden pseudo-1440p)

Speaking of Star wars... I think the mod from PureDark looks and runs better than the patched version.

Would be cool if the DF review covered this! Intrigued that a modder’s hack could do better than a native integration by the dev?!?

They might, they did mention it briefly in the df direct. Its definitely odd that the PureDark mod looks better and from what little I played (the first map 4x, twice with each, one run each with clean install and drivers on 7950x3d, 32 gigs ddr5 and a 4090) to my eye on a 77" LG C3 the mod had less ghosting and an overall cleaner image while also maintaining an average of 8fps more performance without frame gen. I think frame gen is broken in the official patch because I saw no increase when using it. The way I did clean installs was id download the game on a 990 pro and make an image. I'd also have an image of Win11 fully updated so I could do funs quickly. Every setting was the same except what needed to be set for the mod. VRR was enabled but I used Intel's new tool to get my average fps which obviously isn't a perfect way since each run had some uniqueness to it but I was always above 60 with the mod and dipped below a couple times with the patch and RT enabled. Without it I was always above 60. I didn't check if anyone else had issues with frame gen on the patch, I did it all immediately after release just to compare the 2 and report image quality back to PureDark. I used (in his mod) DLSS Mode 3 instead of 6 which if defaults to. There were less artifacts visible during fast moves that way. It's possible the issues with the patch could have been fixed with a different DLSS dll. I didn't try yet. Definitely be interesting to see someone cover it though. I'd do it but I'm not qualified enough nor do I have the time it needs to do right and across enough areas of the game.

Try writing Ms and ask them for a 900p.or maybe 1080p.mode without fst2. Hopefully it's something they can improve on and I'm sure they are reading feedback and turning knobs in problem areas but I'm glad I'm fortunate enough to play on a high end PC with DLSS and frame gen. I really hope AMD can make fsr3 or 4 really compete with DLSS via dedicated hardware and machine learning. I know they use fpga's for rapid prototyping now but I also wonder if one would be good for something like RT or scaling and AA without adding tons of latency. Kinda like sending the necessary frames to the fpg to scale, remove any errors from jittering and then output the frame almost like a scalar chip would but faster and with more functionality.
