Coming This Week To Digital Foundry (Week 35, 2023) (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone, it's a public holiday in the UK today so there was no official #content meeting, but myself, John, Alex and Oliver got together for a chat anyway! First up, thanks to everyone who made it to the Supporter meeting at Gamescom last week - a bit annoyed I couldn't make it, but I was due at the airport and there's not much I can do about that. Maybe we can do something a bit more official and a bit more publicised next time.
So, anyway, what's happening this week? Well, Don's Immortals of Aveum PC review came in today and we'll likely be running that tomorrow. Beyond that, it's all about Starfield. So, we did get review code - but we did get a day later than most US outlets and obviously, we've all been at Gamescom, so that does mean that we'll be unlikely to make the August 31st embargo. But, we do have a raft of Starfield stuff happening.
* John is - not surprisingly - handling the main Starfield tech review, which will be based on the Xbox Series X version of the game. That's going to be his major focus this week.
* Oliver will be handling the Xbox Series X and Series S comparison and performance #content. This will likely drop after the main tech review, because we want to ensure that this video is fully representative of the day one experience. He's also looking to do a Deck vs ROG Ally vs Series S breakdown at some point beyond that.
* Rich (ie me) just needs to complete product photography on the AyaNeo/Ryzen 7 7840U handhelds piece and that epic should be good to go. Beyond that, there may well be some GPU reviews to sort...
* Alex is handling a piece of sponsored content on Immortals of Aveum which will be using the PC version to take a look at how Unreal Engine 5 is being utilised there. Beyond that, we should be in day one territory for the PC version of Starfield. Expect that #content to drop beyond the tech review and console head-to=head video.
* Tom will be looking at Armoured Core 6, having just finished up his work on Immortals of Aveum.
There's going to be something of gap until the Starfield #content rolls in, so we may well film some kind of mini-Direct on FSR 3. There seems to be a huge amount of misunderstanding about the implications of this technology for the consoles. It will run on the consoles - all of them - but there are a number of practical considerations that will limit what it can do. The idea of it guaranteeing 60fps for everything is a pipedream and as far as I can see, there are no latency mitigation strategies for it beyond driver level Anti-Lag and whatever Anti-Lag+ is. This is Radeon-only stuff where a console equivalent will be questionable.
Anyway, that's where we're at for this week - hope you have a good one!
