Early Access to DF Direct Weekly #111 Now Available (Patreon)

Hi everyone, Rich here! First up, apologies for this early access arriving a little later than usual - it's all my fault! I've been away for the last ten days and just returned to the UK this morning. On Thursday, I made the perhaps ill-advised decision to take part in DF Direct Weekly then on Friday morning, I tried to lash up a decent filming set-up. Chaos ensued.
First problem: can I actually get a decent set-up in my Airbnb rental? Secondly, why was there a massive electrical buzz on my lapel mic, running directly into my camera? With help from my wife, we tackled the first problem. However, on the second point, the only solution was to put the lapel mic into the mega-spec gaming laptop I'd been editing on, creating another noise problem thanks to its prodigious fan noise. And with the lapel mic taking up the headset jack, I had to use my phone to hear John and Alex. The camera? I used my Panasonic GH5, so I had to ensure that the battery would last the 90 to 120 minutes this typically takes. To save battery life, I actually used the HDMI output into an Elgato HD60X and used OBS to capture on the laptop.
A bit stressful then with so many potential failure points and hearing from Oliver later that my audio was still poor was immensely depressing! Still, I keep hearing that not all heroes wear capes and perhaps it's true: Oliver did an absolutely astonishing job cleaning up my crappy audio. Somehow it all came together, and because of that, you'll get to hear about why there was no Asus ROG Ally review this week - but there are some hands-on impressions, benchmarks and thoughts on it... which is why I wanted to be in this Direct so much! I hope you enjoy this show - it's been a bit of a marathon.
Oh... and as usual, if you're a newcomer to the DF Supporter Program and want to get the Direct as an early access podcast, please ignore any links on Patreon itself and use this one: https://open.acast.com/public/patreon/fanSubscribe/593963
Meanwhile, here's the blurb: One of the biggest - if not the biggest - game of 2023 launched this week. Nintendo's Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has recently a massively positive reaction. John discusses his review and shares more thoughts on the game, while digging more deeply into the eternal question - is it too big for Switch? Meanwhile, Rich drops in from time off to share his impressions with the Asus ROG Ally and A Plague Tale: Requiem gets a 60fps patch... but what does it actually do?
