Hi everyone, here's a (slightly) early look at the first PC tech review from new contributor, Don Allen. A while back we did a poll on what people really want to see from PC tech reviews and optimised settings was by far and away the most popular thing, so we're aiming to roll out less involved videos that get to the basics on more games - and this is the first one.

Dead Island 2 PC - DF Tech Review - Optimised Settings + Performance Tests

The state of PC ports in 2023 is hardly impressive - and we're particularly edgy when a new PC game based on Unreal Engine 4 arrives for testing. But the truth is that in common with its console siblings, Dead Island 2 on PC delivers a solid experience. Here's newcomer Don Allen taking on the port, with optimised settings for mid-range 'console-like' hardware and higher end kit. Great job, Don! I initially thought you were Alex at the start of the video :)

Welcome, Don. Nice one

Don, good video with coverage of performance, upscaling quality, some graphical issues the game has and the optimized settings. Nice balance between Alex's deep dives and more general coverage, while still covering all major points.

Yeah, only half way the video realized.... hey, I actually don't recognize his voice haha. Don has such a good voice to listen to :)

I really appreciated the succinct format of this kind of review. I find it useful just to know the general state of a PC release according to DF (to buy now or wait) and the big wins in terms of settings. Just to add a random data point I might be interested in is the “CPU fps” of a game for mid vs high end, I’m one of those folks with an overeager GPU compared to CPU, and it’s been a challenge on some recent releases, especially ones with RTX. Nice to “meet” Don and look forward to his future content!
