Hi everyone, it's time to put together the plan for DF Direct Weekly #95! We'll be discussing whether minimum PC specs have gone mad, mulling over the tumult at Microsoft, sharing impressions on GeForce Now 4080 ahead of our full review and... well, that's up to you! Are there any other topics you'd like us to discuss?

And of course, there's our supporter Q+A section... please put forth your questions for Rich, John and Alex 'in the comments below' and we'll review them all first thing on Friday morning for inclusion in the show.

We're also planning to make the upcoming DF Direct Weekly #100 as special as possible - do let us know of anything special you'd like to see in this landmark episode!

Hello lovely guys and happy Chinese New Year (or Lunar New Year if you'd prefer that)! , with all the outdated gimmicks happened in video game history, is there any of them you'd like to see a comeback, like episodic releases, secondary screen, full-body motion control, etc?

What do you all think of the PSVR2 launch lineup? https://blog.playstation.com/2023/01/19/playstation-vr2-13-new-titles-and-launch-lineup-revealed/

Considering the console model has been to initially lose money on the sale of consoles before they become cheap enough to manufacture to make a profit. Do you think it would just be easier for Sony and Microsoft to ditch their machines and just become a publisher and release their games on PC instead? Potentially any loss of profits from the sale of consoles later on would be mitigated by the larger PC user base?

With talk of what the Switch Sequel's 'gimmick' / 'differentiator' might be - I'm reminded of this patent from november 2022: https://image-ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/20220362667 Do you have any thoughts on what this could mean for the new nintendo console -should this patent play into it's design somehow.. It looks like there'll be a heavy emphasis on multiplayer augmented reality.. ?

Would it make sense for Sony to release a second PSVR2 variant that works on PC & PS5 but costs a few hundred Euros more? Would this even be feasible without risking the immediate "cracking" of the cheaper console-only PSVR2 to force it to work on PC (making the expensive version obsolete) ?

Given that Weird Al is "All About the Pentiums", what arguments would you use to convince him to look into Zen 4 instead of Raptor Lake?

What do you think is holding up Sony from implementing VRR at 1440p? Given the plethora of 1440p VRR monitors, this would be ideal for games like God of War: Ragnarök

Given the leaked images of the Tears of the Kingdom special edition Switch OLED, it seems unlikely that the Nintendo Switch U will launch with this game. How can we explain this game being "too big for Switch"? Could Nintendo be creating a less restrictive power profile to get it to run? https://www.gamespot.com/amp-articles/the-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-switch-oled-model-may-have-leaked/1100-6510238/

I have spent an obscene amount of time in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet despite all the technical problems. What is one game that you have liked so much that you could overlook all/most of the technical short comings. (Please don't answer Elden Ring, as we know VRR on XSX or the PS4 Pro version on PS5 can help mask the problems)

Do you have any Persona 3 and Persona 4 ports coverage planned? With all the versions, the 120fps Series X ones, the 60fps Switch ones, the lack of PS5 ones, the visuals that date from the CRT era and all that stuff, it could be a very good topic. But I would understand it might be too much time consuming.

Any plans to do some streaming? You're out there testing games and getting footage all day so might as well! (I'd understand you probably want to work in peace...)

standing over the grave of google stadia, any forelorn words or reminiscences of more laggy times?

What are the DF teams thoughts on PSVR, was it a success or not and why do you hold this view? and what does PSVR2 have to do to be a success in your view? and do you think PSVR2 will be the catalyst for VR to really become mainstream, it will come eventually but will this be the actual start?

Recently there has been talk that devs are concerned about the Xbox Series S and that it's lower power to the XSX & PS5 is going to hold back games or make it difficult to run well on XSS, was it a mistake in hindsight for MS to have the XSS and also going back to the replacement for the Switch as discussed last week, if Nintendo wants third party can they really afford to go low powered if it seems XSS games are going to struggle?

Hello DF friends! What's your best/worst (gaming related?) package delivery story? Mine is probably when my Xbox Series X was delivered to the wrong address with the delivery company insisting it has been delivered correctly. Amazingly, it wasn't stolen, but it ended up being left out for days and days in rainstorms. Someone eventually checked the address and let me know, and after draining the Series X (literally) of about a pitcher full of water, and letting it dry for about a week next to a heater, it now works flawlessly ever since, for more than a year. It's named (rather aptly I feel) as "The Prodigal Son Returned" in it's settings. :P

Hey ya’ll! It feels like we are officially in an era where upscaling technology and soon AI/machine learning are a must in gaming especially as higher resolution screens, 100+ frame rates, and raytracing become the norm. Do you think we’ll see a mid-console refresh where the only change is better raytracing and machine learning tech? Do you think PCs will see discrete cards for raytracing or other tech in the future letting graphics card to focus on rasterization? And finally, what do you think (or want) the next advancement in gaming will be?

Hey DF Crew! I've been really impressed with DLSS3 since the addition of VSync support. But why does VSync need to be enabled in Nvidia's Control Panel instead of in game? If there's something special about Nvidia's implementation will developers be able to replicate it natively in the future, or are we going to be stuck using the control panel? Bonus question if you have time, is it better to use VRR with a framerate cap at my TV's refresh rate, or VRR with VSync?

Hi guys. What are your thoughts on Yves Guillemot and Ubisoft? Is it time for some new blood to lead the company back to prosperity? He has been in his position there for a really long time. It seems like they have lost their direction a bit in the last 5 years or so.

Have you ever thought about developing interactive tutorials explaining visual effects? Videos are great, but imagine loading up a game world and finding yourself examining a garden wall with a voiceover from Alex explaining how it demonstrates parallax occlusion mapping. Game changer.

Would you be interested in checking out Half-Life 2 VR mod/port?

How do you mitigate 31 fps cap Xbox 360 back compat judder on series x, could you do 120 hz dashboard plus VRR, really annoying to play The Orange box At 4K 31 fps

I still believe that we will get a ps5 pro (ps5rt maybe?) by the end of next year. Hear me out: ps5‘s cu count(36) is so low, they must have planned to release an updated apu with double the amount of cu‘s sometime. Just like in last gen. Anyways, love your work
