Coming This Week on Digital Foundry (Week 41, 2022) (Patreon)
Content
Hullo folks! Rich is in the midst of some serious video production, so it falls to me to inform you kind people about what we're working on this week following our content meeting yesterday. As you might expect, RTX 4090 is taking precedence for a few members of the team, but here's what we're each up to:
* Oliver is working on No Man's Sky for Switch, another 'impossible port' of a massive game world to the most performance-constrained console. I'm super curious to see how this one shapes up, as NMS feels like it could be quite a fun game to play on the go - if the technical side of things holds up.
* Tom is looking at two multiplayer titles this week: the Street Fighter 6 beta and Overwatch 2. What technical innovations does each follow-up offer at this early stage in their development?
* John's work on Final Fantasy 13 DF Retro continues apace, but he's also interested to try Bayonetta 3 for Switch, which debuts at the end of the month.
* Alex is all-in on DLSS 3, as we prepare for the launch of the RTX 4090 graphics card tomorrow. That means testing new scenarios, checking for visual artefacts, judging the performance implications and much more. Overall, we want to be able to offer a comprehensive view of what this new tech can accomplish and where it's best used.
* Rich is heroically taking on what looks like our biggest graphics card review ever for the RTX 4090 - a nine page article (!) for Eurogamer and a 30m+ video, with even more new games than featured in our Intel Arc GPU coverage last week plus power consumption analysis and more. It's a massive undertaking, but the results ought to be most illuminating.
* Will (ie me) is helping out Rich where possible on the RTX 4090 front, managing the efforts of Digital Foundry Deals writer Reece and finding time for more CPU testing. It is a massively busy time for us in the PC hardware space, but with luck we can almost make out the light at the end of the tunnel :)
Phew, I think that's about it for now - but is there anything else that we ought to be covering? Let us know below, or reach out on Discord.
Thanks for joining me, apologies for the day's delay on this post, and have a great week!
