It's time once again for the team to down tools for a couple of hours and talk about the latest gaming and technology news. Yes, it's DF Direct Weekly! We'll be discussing the alleged Horizon remaster, the leaked Sony doc in general, the path-traced rendition of the original Quake, the PS5 hack and much more... like the general reaction to Intel Arc.

That means it's time for supporters to wade in with questions for the show and potential topics you'd like us to discuss if you think we've missed anything of interest!

Will you guys be reviewing overwatch 2? The features are not really refreshing, but its a multi-platform game, so the performance will be really interesting to see.

Do you think the confusion around comparing DLSS and FSR 2 to DLSS 3 is the fact that named as the successor to DLSS 2 despite the technology being different? Should they still be calling it Deep Learning 'Super Sampling' if it's not actually 'supersampling' a higher resolution?

Mr Bespoke

Hi John, Im enjoying the retro content since the birth of the DF channel and was wondering, is or was there a project that you wanted to do but couldn't either it been too big, time consuming or lack of resources? Keep up the excellent work.

The Dressing Gown

With the (somewhat) recent announcement of Golden Eye coming to the xbox and switch, were everyone thought it would forever be stuck in licencing hell, what games would the DF team desperately like to see remake or remasters of that at this point are almost never going to happen?

Did I hear it correctly on your video exploring DLSS3 that the Frame Interpolation element turns off vsync? Does this open up the possibility of exceeding the monitors refresh rate and causing screen tearing, or will Nvidia Reflex continue to cap it below the refresh to optimise latency?

About that rumour on Horizon remaster, with all well it runs on base console and pro and PS5, it got me wondering if a remaster would be really that necessary if we think about a game that deserves far more love : The Last Guardian ? Then again they remastered TLOU barely one year after its original release, so in SIE's mind it might not be about what's necessary on a technical point but perhaps in a selling point ?

The Steam Deck combined with Proton has shown that it is possible to achieve excellent performance with a graphics API translation layer (in this case DirectX to Vulkan). So I'm wondering if it might be an option for Intel Arc to go a similar route and have an open source translation layer for older graphics APIs instead of trying to catch up with the drivers? A kind of Proton for Intel Arc. Intel could bundle a validated and stable version with the drivers while allowing the community to create their own performance patches for more obscure titles. I wouldn't be surprised if Assassin's Creed Unity runs better on Proton/Steam Deck than some Intel Arc setups.

Hello Guys love the show, always the best part of my weekend. With Unreal Engine 5.1 preview out this week, do you really think it will improve #StutterStruggle on PC and when do you think developers will implement it?

If DF sits on the board of directors for Intel, what would DF advise Intel to do about Arc and Intel discrete graphics?

Will you be doing a ps4 ps5 god of war Ragnarok within a couple weeks of it's release?

Nico Simmons

Greetings Lords of the Digital Foundry! I was wondering since you plan to talk about the fully path-traced rendition of Quake - can you say anything regarding the newly announced RT Overdrive mode for Cyberpunk? I'm just starved for information about this. My puny setup will probably not be able to run this, but I had to ask. Enjoy the coming weekend & thanks for doing these Q&As so regularly. It means a lot

Nico Simmons

Excellent question, in my mind. I would like to know this as well - it's not the ideal solution, but it does provide an intriguing way to tackle this. Or do we miss something here?

Isn't this what they already do with DX9? It's a layer from MS IIRC. It would be *very* interesting to see Proton on Linux with a DX9 title on ARC against the same title on Windows using MS's translation layer.

I just learnt the delightful German phrase “Eierlegende Wollmilchsau.” What is the Eierlegende Wollmilchsau of the tech industry?
