Hello there - a muted #content meeting this morning! Truth is that there's still a lot of stuff from last week we need to get out of the door. DLSS 3... after another weekend sunk into it, I think we're close to done with it. The final video will be in the region of 30 minutes.

Here's how things are sitting right now:

* John is out of general rotation for now, but the Klonoa DF Retro episode - which is around two hours in length - will be cut into two hour-long segments, the first going live this Sunday.

* Audi should be delivering the next DF Retro Play this week for retro supporters, concentrating on all the 3D Super NES titles that didn't use the SuperFX chip or Mode 7! There are also plans to record the next DF After Dark podcast for Premium/Retro supporters.

* Alex really, really wants to go in-depth on Portal RTX. And there's a bunch of other stuff he really, really wants to do too. Question is, how to prioritise it and how it fits in with various embargoes.

* Tom returns to Modern Warfare 2! The beta opened up this weekend, offering Xbox access - plus the bigger modes coming online for all players, meaning a return visit to PlayStation.

* Oliver is going to take a good look at the 120Hz VRR patch and 40Hz support for Uncharted's Legacy of Thieves collection.

* Will has a text-based review of the Ryzen 7000 CPU series coming very soon. Can the latest AMD chips catch up to - and surpass - Core i9 12900K? And what about AMD's own Ryzen 7 5800X3D?

* Rich (ie me) has to get to grips with a bit of a workflow issue. Ideally we'd have a video up for the Ryzen text review, but owing to the realities of remote working, I can't access the chips at the same time as Will - who does primary benchmarking. We need to get this sorted for the upcoming Intel Arc reviews.

Any games we should be covering? Any 'off diary' topics we should be addressing? The release schedule has gone dark again, so feel free to throw tips and suggestions our way!

Letting Will out of the dungeon was a bad idea, I suggest having him recaptured and secured there to resolve the issue of hardware reviews.

If there is any performance gained on a 3080ti... Or 3090 or 3080 and above If you force enable resizable bar in Spiderman Remastered (win10 pro 21h2) I'm curious because before doing so and before the patches to help performance a bit, I did just that and I was able to play the game with no more stutter (usually happened when going fast in 1 direction then quickly changing directions), I had DLSS on balanced but now it's on Quality, both RT setting on very high where before they were high. Again this is before all the patches. I used nvprofileinspector to do it and the game seems to run better and at the very least it got rid of the occasional stutter. My specs... ROG Crosshair VIII Formula motherboard AMD Ryzen 5800x (AMD PBO enabled) 3080ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming +122 code +860 mem 32 gigs DDR4 3800mhz CL14-14-14-34 1T Game is on a WD Black gen4 m.2 Windows is on a Samsung 980 Pro m.2 My Swap file is on a SATA3 based WD Blue SSD. My Windows default folders etc are on a WB Blue HDD. I dunno I feel like it's more than placebo since I could raise the settings and it still ran perfectly and seemed better even not considering the occasional hitch here and there. My system is due for a clean install of Windows but I almost don't want to bother with gen4 ryzen on its way. A short video on this or just basic and quick results in a DF Direct would be fantastic...

I have a ridiculously bad idea. How about getting Will one of those glasses that could record while he's working on the chips. Like Ray-Ban ones or others? Another worse idea is for you (Rich and Will) both be having Hololens so you could actually work together on the same stuff at the same time while being remote 😋. And That's my start of the week/Good Monday morning from North America.. Lol

After dark could be legendary with the stuff that has been going on

Maybe in the future a comparison of RE8 village on the Switch cloud and Sony'sPS3 streaming performance

Any plans to cover or thoughts on Prodeus? I found out about that game from DF I believe, and their 1.0 / console release was last week.

Dan Matte

Any chance you guys might cover DioField Chronicle? Really nice title.

Ray

Please do a full in-depth technical review of Trombone Champ. It's important.

Dan Matte

Also Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II was mentioned at one point. Any chance that could still happen? Thanks as always, DF team!

You might want to visit Hardspace Shipbreaker on consoles. It launched last week or so, and is a fairly unique opportunity to stress the CPU of the new consoles under certain circumstances.

Mike Carter

I just wanted to say, thanks to Will for being literally the only reviewer I found that tested raytracing CPU bound scenarios. Seems like every other reviewer is still stuck in the old way of thinking about game bottlenecks.

This launch of AMD Ryzen CPUs and the growing importance of power consumption and compute efficiency makes it abundantly clear that we need metrics beyond FPS for assessing hardware performance. Have you thought about including new metrics for your testing that would shine some light on how desktop gaming on the latest hardware compares in (i.e. cost per hour at a specific resolution) with prior gen HW?

Looking to cover Nier on switch?
