This one goes up later today, but all Patrons get to see it RIGHT NOW. And yes, DF Direct Weekly #65 drops today too. There's a backlog of videos to publish, so Premium and Retro supporters can expect more this weekend!

The concept of native resolution rendering is becoming less and less important as 'smart' upscalers like temporal super-sampling, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 and Nvidia DLSS produce compelling imagery from low native rendering resolutions. PlayStation's God of War represents one of the biggest content challenges owing to its reliance on dense, high frequency detail - so what are the strengths and weaknesses of the various scaling methods, and where next for FSR 2.0?

Like I mentioned yesterday in the short version I thought fsr2 did pretty good although I didn't go below 4k output balanced. I didn't notice the ghosting on the arm or axe from about 6 feet away on a 65" LG C1 and I was throwing that axe everywhere. Unfortunately the area I'm in didn't have foliage or I would have noticed the shimmering branches and I honestly didn't look at his face. So AMD still has some improvements to make but it's a huge leap over FSR1. At 4k max settings on quality DLSS was only running 4-6fps faster too so if they can fix the thin object shimmer and clean up artifacts on fast moving objects I think we are in for a good showdown this holiday season. Is FSR2 open source? I know 1 was and assuming 2 is then you have significantly larger pool of developers potentially making enhancements and while nVidia definitely has a bigger r&d budget I wouldn't rule AMD out... Not anymore. I think they are finally back in fighting shape and it might not take as long as some people think for them to match nVidia. They already caught up on rasterization... Now they just need to get there with RT & FSR. The chiplets are coming the chiplets are coming and maybe FPGA's can come too.
