So we wanted to know precisely what happened when Elden Ring's last-gen code tapped into back-compat enhancements on Xbox Series X. Could we hit the same locked 60fps we enjoy on PS5 running PS4 Pro code? The answers are disappointing to say the least, but we do learn more about how the From Software engine operates...

Elden Ring Back-Compat - Xbox Series X Running One X Code Can't Hit 60FPS

Right now, the only way to lock at 60fps in Elden Ring on any platform is to run the PlayStation 4 Pro version of the game on PlayStation 5 - an option with a digital download rendition of the game. It IS possible to get Xbox One X code running on Series X, but you'll need a physical disc and it WON'T hit 60fps. In fact, it runs slower than the native app! However, in the process, we did learn much more about how the From Software engine works... Tom still using the "XBOX ONE" decal after Alex said he'd send him the "XBOX ONE S" decal to update.

Tom: "Thank you so much Alex for joining me on this one" Alex: "Of course there John" lol

I have it on PC and series x. Originally bought it on PC for obvious reasons yet then.. well we all know. So I played it on series x because with VRR it was good enough. Now whatever they did with the PC patch I can play it at a locked 60 and there's no stutter. Whether that's VRR smoothing it out or not I don't know but it's smooth and I'm very... Annoyed by stutter and won't play a game with it.

Huzzah! This might possibly be the last time Tom has to do any XB1-related work, so I'm glad we sorted this out in the nick of time. All 1.2M of us can sleep now.

I would like to ask, is this "hack" possible with digitally owned versions? Let's say that I have already downloaded the game on an external hard drive on a Xbox one X, have my series X as my home console, and then connect the external hard drive to series X and do the other steps as with the physical version. If that's possible, you can even check newer patched versions, even for physical games.
