A somewhat bizarre week as due to the status of various projects and the surprise arrival of the Cyberpunk 2077 1.5 update, almost nobody was available to film the latest Direct. Rich and John stepped forward to film though, making this an episode quite unlike any other. The invitation for Chad Warden to guest will always remain open though, obviously...

DF Direct Weekly #49: Cyberpunk 2077 Next-Gen Patch, Horizon Forbidden West Reaction

The somewhat unlikely scenario of DF Direct Weekly making its way to a 49th instalment has somehow come to pass! Tom, Alex, Will and Audi are all consigned to Rich's basement this week, meaning that it's just John and Rich to tackle the big news of the week: Cyberpunk 2077's 1.5 update with next-gen features landing, Dying Light 2 receiving VRR unlocked frame-rate support on Xbox Series X and - yes - there's reaction to the reaction to Horizon Forbidden West's release. Ps5 version of cyberpunk 2077 has some things censored unfortunately. None of the other versions do though. Also I played on a high end PC like John at launch and it was much better. This new update though... It looks better, runs better, plays better and this is really just the start.

I'm loving 2077 so far, but don't see a huge difference with rt on.

Geez...does Sony seem to be getting heavier-handed with this censorship?

Yeah it's an odd thing to be doing, especially when Nintendo isn't. I live in upside down world lol. Also it's sonys fault I'm so tired. Horizon forbidden west is hard to put down.

Really? Did you take screenshots? Like 1 screenshot with it off then pause, enable and take another? I only ask because the difference is quite large. Not just lighting itself but shadows and reflections too. The higher your output resolution OR using DLSS no higher than Balanced mode can mess with the quality of some ray tracing elements.

Oh to whoever asked about the LG C1 and HDR... Make sure you have black level to auto, peak brightness to high (not panel brightness or regular brightness), also disable any power savings and ai or auto features and things like noise reduction, super resolution etc. The channel HDTV Test on YouTube has a video about the best settings and why. Personally I think HDR is a better upgrade than going from 1080p to 4k. Oh Dolby Vision... It's even more stunning than HDR! Last thing, make sure if a game supports HGIG to first set it up in the console itself but also make sure the tv is set to HGIG. If content isn't HGIG then enable dynamic tone mapping. Lastly lastly lol, no dynamic contrast, sharpness should be 0 but if you must raise it then don't go higher than 10, color upgrade... Don't use it and color temp should be warm 50 in HDR for reference settings

Great video! However, I was hoping for a short revisit by Alex on the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 with the 1.5 patch. The new RT shadows and performance improvements(?) would be the topics. Still hoping for that!

Totally agree, dolby vision is insane, I actively look for dv versions of films. The difference in Basic Instinct is night and day, goes from a dark with no shadow detail in a bar scene with hdr10 to warm rich and inviting with dv on. Stunning!
