Hello there, and it's with much pleasure that we kick off the week with our first look at Horizon Forbidden West - a tech deep dive into the PlayStation 5 version of the game with minor teases on our upcoming PS4/Pro/PS5 head-to-head. Content restrictions from Sony prevent us from releasing too much video content before launch but the main thrust of the comparisons will be available in a Eurogamer article. So - we typically release five videos per week, and that accounts for two of them, while DF Direct fills the third slot. So what else is cooking in this week and beyond.

* Rich (ie me) continues to work behind the scenes on Steam Deck coverage, which arrives towards the end of the month.

* John is taking a look at Nightdive's excellent Powerslave/Exhumed remake.

* Tom is examining Triangle Strategy for Switch, and is likely to move onto Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection, also on the Nintendo machine.

* Oliver is back with coverage of CrossFireX on Xbox consoles.

* Alex is indulging his twin passions for Warhammer and RTS games with a piece on Total War Warhammer 3.

* Audi is polishing up the second DF After Dark podcast which should 'drop' this week for premium and retro supporters.

* Will has been looking at the Intel Core i7 12700K and Core i5 12400F - expect the full lowdown on Eurogamer. Spoilers: they're very good and we're actively chasing down the i3 everyone's raving about.

Work also begins in earnest this week on the next DF Retro project. I won't spoil the details, but it's going to be a proper undertaking but one that should truly pay off. Meanwhile, in previous updates, I've talked about running the PS3 emulator - RPCS3 - on the PlayStation 5 CPU. This project is currently on hold until Steam Deck coverage is complete, but it turns out that the scale of that effort will need to expand as the CPU requirement to match original hardware is beyond the scope of the 4700S. Should be an interesting project but one that's pushed onto the back burner for now.

Have a great week!

Finished the new exhumed port on Saturday, worked flawless on my 32:9. Great port, couldn't imagine seeing the game look like that when I watched my bro play it on an old crt on Saturn back in the day!

Poor Oliver lol. I bought the game and I'm kinda wishing I hadn't. Powerslave is really nice so far. Seems like they took the Saturn version which imo was the best and combined the best parts of the other versions. Can't go wrong there.

Another great CPU to test is the i7 5820k. 6 cores, 12 threads and I could get both the ones I had up to 5ghz all core with no problem.

Would you guys like to elaborate further on the limitations made by Sony regarding the Horizon Forbidden West footage? As I understand it now, these limitations causes you not being able to release a PS4 (pro) vs PS5 video.... How can it be then that IGN can release (less in-dept) comparisons of this? Is it because there is just a limit on how many minutes of HBW you are allowed to show and you had to make choices and choose to release a tech review first? Or is it because the restrictions from Sony for you are different then for IGN for example? Always a bit... idk... bad to see publishers limiting game coverage strategically, hopefully this isn't the case here.

The limitation is that we had 30 minutes of footage we could share. It is nothing to do with dictating content as such, more the amount of video we could put out pre-launch. In that scenario, we chose to put our tech review front and centre and the comparison will come later. As I mentioned in the article there, the Eurogamer piece will have our thoughts on the PS4/Pro versions - which are fascinating and actually very good!

Oliver is working on crossfire? Hang in there. I feel your pain.
