Hi everyone, Rich here. So way back when, the focus for Digital Foundry was written articles on Eurogamer supplemented by comparison galleries and then comparison videos and performance testing in video format, hosted on EG's in-house player. There came a point where YouTube's video quality increased significantly enough that we felt comfortable hosting material on the platform. Before that, we actually hand-encoded our content with x264 for the Eurogamer player to ensure maximum quality.

Around 2012/2013, we switched to using YouTube as a video host for assets, but come 2015 we knew that this wasn't cutting it - YouTube had its own audience and they wanted properly edited #content. Just bunging a frame-rate test on YouTube  produced poor watch times, little audience engagement etc and wasn't financially viable - edited packages were required to actually build something worth a damn. But here's the thing: although you don't see all of the frame-rate data, it's still produced.

So consider this bonus as a kind of harkening back to the DF of old . Since Cyberpunk 2077's launch, Tom has been harvesting performance data from set areas of the game - mostly on last-gen consoles. However, as patch 1.23 is the last major patch before the actual next-gen version, here's the core data for Series X and PS5. Compare and contrast with the full video - it gives you some idea of how far we've come in terms of basic analysis content. In 2013 you'd get this and flat A to B comparison videos, a Eurogamer article... and that would be that!

Very cool stuff! I remember watching DF coverage of PS3 titles back nearly a decade ago, and this feels like a warm hug of nostalgia
