Hey guys, just to give a little insight into things, I've started preliminary work on the next DF Retro which will be Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. These episodes usually come together in a hurry so I decided to get a drop on it and did some capture this morning. Already have an hour of footage from both PS1 and Dreamcast with more to come (including PC).

The process is usually pretty simple - for the most part, I've selected games that I know pretty well since it's the only possible way to get these things done in a timely fashion without loads of research but, of course, I do still wind up researching things anyways. With Soul Reaver, there is a lot of baggage there so I've been digging deep into the history and talking with people that live and breath Legacy of Kain trying to figure out which areas I want to tackle.

For myself, getting the initial capture is a huge part of each project since it allows me to relive the game (been a while since I've played it) and appreciate what made it special in the first place. By doing it across different versions, it also gives me ideas on how I want to tackle those comparisons.

Beyond that, I also like to research the engine and any tools that have been produced to make working with assets easier. The Soul Reaver community is massive and talented folks have built tools to extract and play with all of the game's assets. So I've already extracted wire-frame models of characters and levels. It's fun to place the Dreamcast and PS1 models side by side in wire-frame and really see what's changed.

There is a *LOT* more to do (90% of the production, really) but it's always nice to get started a week or two before it hits. I'll keep you posted on the date - it might be next Sunday or possibly the Sunday after. It all depends on how efficient I am this time out!

If you have any questions, though, don't hesitate to ask!

I can also share that the episode AFTER Soul Reaver is definitely going to be Doom. Beyond that, though, I have a lot of other cool ideas that I'll share once things start falling into place!

Can't wait to see what you do with this. Would love a follow-up on the Xbox/PS2 sequel later on
