Hello there, let's talk Digital Foundry #content, but first of all, let's talk Patreon integration with digitalfoundry.net not working correctly. A couple of weeks ago, responses from the Patreon API changed which meant we were unable to read your tier status correctly, meaning you couldn't download anything from the site. We found a workaround which seemed to resolve the issue with no assistance from Patreon. Last week, the API responses changed again and as things stand we have no way of figuring out which tier you are on. As we understand it, the information simply isn't given out any more so at this point we are in the hands of Patreon support, which isn't great. We are doing our best to get this sorted but right now, we've reached a dead-end.

If anyone here has knowledge of the Patreon API and how to access tier status, please let us know.

Moving on to the actual #content, let's crack on with the details:

  • John has finished his next big DF Retro episode on the big Saturn vs PlayStation head-to-head. This has proven to be a huge task, so while we were originally planning for this episode to be driving and shooting games, it's driving only. We'll circle back to shooting next before continuing to plough on through the genres. Next up for John: Doom and Doom 2's latest release, courtesy of Nightdive Studios.

  • Alex has just handed in a completed edit on VRR - what it can do, what it can't do and why it can never 'fix' stutter. He's helping out Oliver on a more detailed Space Marine 2 preview and will be our man to cover Black Myth: Wukong if/when code appears. We don't have it yet.

  • Oliver is indeed working on a Space Marine 2 preview, which you should see soon - and he's also working on a follow-up to our Switch first-party 'best graphics' video, taking a look at the system's third-party 'impossible ports'...!

  • Rich (ie me) is changing tack and putting some time into setting expectations for PS5 Pro. This one's going to be interesting, because while I think I've got an AMD GPU in mind that encompasses likely performance, we're going to need an Nvidia one too to tick off RT performance and machine learning-based upscaling. I'm also continuing work on our benchmarking upgrade and will have a smaller post to share on that soon.

  • Tom was at a press event today and will be covering some of the stuff there in #EmbargoedContent and we're going to need another mini-project for him to do as well... Kena: Bridge of Spirits perhaps? Anything else you'd like him to look at?

  • Will is going to be following up his Ryzen 9000/Zen 5 review with more of the same once Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X hove into view. We've a couple more benchmark automations complete now - Counter Strike 2 and Starfield (Akila, yes!) - so he's also going back and covering those titles in our existing benches.

So, lots going on then and next week, John, Alex and I will be at Gamescom, where we'll be producing DF Direct Weekly #177 - but in the meantime, do feel free to chime in with any feedback or #content suggestions. Have a great week!

Looks like Patreon doesn't provide support for its API directly https://docs.patreon.com/#introduction Might be worth checking on the Patreon dev site below if you haven't already https://www.patreondevelopers.com/top?period=quarterly

Can someone take a Quick Look at Homeworld 3?

Hey DF, the shader precompiler for Black Myth Wukong seems to be broken - my 7700X just sits there at max 20% util. And during the benchmark I can clearly see stutters even without RTSS frame time graph. Seems like another UE game with broken shader precompiler? 🤨 (Jedi Survivor) BTW the game looks stunning and is super demanding (average 60 fps at 4K DLSS performance on my 4090 all maxed out). Reminded me of the first properly ray traced games like Control or Quake RT that 2080Ti could run at around 1080p@60. Also, the benchmark eats only 8GB VRAM all maxed out!! And the game sorely needs a sharpening slider!!

If Alex has any time, Hunt Showdown has a big new update and is now running on Cryengine 5.11
