Hi everyone, if you saw the latest edition of DF Direct Weekly, you'd have seen that there's an issue with set-top box Xbox One units that can't be updated. If they've been factory reset, they're basically bricked.

We have now tested three of our own units and none of them can update. However, our units basically haven't been touched since 2017/2018. We're looking to find out the extent of the issue and will clearly need to crowd-source some more data.

If you have an Xbox One console (not Xbox One S), can you plug it in and try it out? Are you prompted for a system software upgrade when you connect to the internet? Does it fail and error out? Can you give us your current software revision?

Just to stress, the error happens before you update and no harm will befall your console.

Thanks for testing! This is for an article that'll be going live on Eurogamer at 4pm BST today.

I'm a little late to the party. I wasn't able to see what version my XBone VCR was but it just took a 900ish meg update to 10.0.25398.4910. The person at the flea market that I picked this one up from said it wasn't able to update even before. I guess I just needed to reset the network settings...?
