Those who have been signed up to this Patreon for a long time know: this is the time of year in which I post some reference to this ridiculous meme.

Here's a little overview of how last month went for me:

PAINT-OVERS

Doing paint-overs for this month’s tutorial was a success! It helped me so much to figure out which points would be helpful to demonstrate, and allowed me to illustrate my point way more efficiently! I’m hoping to do more of these types of tutorials in the future, maybe around similar topics like drawing poses, choosing colors, or lighting. If you have any ideas or specific things that you're sturggling with, feel free to drop them in the #tutorial-suggestions channel in the discord server or post them below! I'd be happy to tackle more in the future.

ROUGH PATCH

I’m going through quite a rough patch at the moment. I had to cancel my attendance at playgrounds and shift my focus to managing my mental and physical health for now. I’m doing a bit better but I think it will be a while before I’m back to my previous energy level. During times like these, I’m so grateful for my relationship with art. It has always been my escape, and a way for me to disappear into a soothing and calming activity. And I’m also so grateful for the support I have here on Patreon and the kind words I received. It really means so much to me!

I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

Hey kiddo, you have been putting out amazing stuff at a ridiculous clip for over a decade. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say you have more than earned some space to turn it down a notch and pay some attention to your health and wellbeing. We want you at your best and happiest for the future and you should feel free to do whatever you need to make that possible. We will all be here no matter what, as we are addicted to your work, and many of us are just as interested in you doing well personally 😁 fwiw.

Hi Loish, and thank you for your all of your useful content you are providing. It has been an immense help. What I personally struggle the most and I'd love to find out how you approach it, is lighting and shadow. When I am doing studies of portraits from photographs I am having difficulty identifying where to place my shadows and light, thus it lacks the 3D-dimensionality. I'd love to know more of your throught process of how you decide how to approch this. Just a personal suggestion if by any chance in the future you decide to elaborate this subject more.:) Also, we hope you get well soon and get your energy level back as before 🙏

Laura

hey Loish! agree with Cluis! I'm glad to hear you're doing a bit better! Hope May brings you lots of confort and wellbeing :D

Take care Loish, that's the important bit <3 We would benefit from paintovers about any art fundamental tbh. You kind of already did that on the faces and was great. I'd love to see more of these, even if it's on more faces! Also, I am thinking on buying some props for reference, like ecorche statues or planar figures, and was wondering if you used something similar when you were learning, or if you still do. Depending on the answer, perhaps a studio tour may be interesting for a video one of these days? I'd also love to see the art books you have both for reference and inspiration :D

Loish

i actually do own a couple of figurines but i personally don't find them that useful because gesture and movement is more important to me than anatomical precision or lighting. but i know that a lot of people benefit enormously from them so it really depends on your workflow! a studio tour would be so fun to do, i'll definitely make one if time allows!

Loish

thank you! that's definitely an interesting topic to tackle!

Hello Loish, how do you feel right now? I hope you recover your health, take care of yourself please! Enjoy of nature, play with your cats and enjoy the company of your love one ❤ By the way, I was wondering... you use to draw in Photoshop and when you submit videos usually it's there. I'm learning to use procreate right know and I would love watching you draw there to get used to the workflow. Can you make a poll about this? So maybe, if more people are interested, it can be implemented too

Loish

hey alicia! folks are definitely interested in a procreate tutorial, so i'll be making one further down the line! the problem is that my ipad is ccurrently broken (i have a line of dead pixels down the middle) so i have to grab a new one first. but i will definitely make sure to make a procreate tutorial soon! i've been drawing in procreate a bit more lately too so i have a lot to share! i feel a bit better, my mental health has stabilized a bit and i'm allowing myself to go with the flow and be more accepting of the situation i'm in. i think it's going to take some work to deal with the issues i'm facing but i'm taking it one day at a time. thanks for your kind message :)

I'm happy to know this is going to happen one day! thanks. Oh shit, so bad luck with the ipad 😅 Yeah, mental heath is something that take work to deal with and improve it. I had hard anxiety during covid and because of unemployment, right now I don't have it but sometimes I still feeling that ghost. I obviously don't know exactly what you have, but I hope that with profesional help and your familiar support you get better ❤

Lots of hugs your way but also distant supportive sad empathetic it will get better vibes (if that makes sense). Hope you have chances to go out in green nature fields or walks or mountains of lakes - that always soothes me, even if the sadness doesn't quite go away. It feels so... Neutral and it's own thing and just THERE. An ever constant! 💛

Loish

thank you! i find a lot of solace in nature, especially now when all the plants are growing again. me and arjen always call it "the fluffening" haha!
