This is part 3, and the final part, of the process for my Ice painting! You can find part 1 here, and part 2 here. Just like the last videos, it’s been sped up 1.5 times - so slightly faster than real time.

This process video starts with the moment that I decide to copy/paste a photo of ice onto the painting. I was really struggling to get a convincing ice texture, and wanted to try putting some real ice over it and setting that layer to overlay. This is something I occasionally do to check for myself what the image is missing in order to make it look more believable. In this case, it worked so well that I decided to just keep the image on there and integrate it into the artwork. It felt a tiny bit like cheating, but it worked so well that I just had to keep it! I add some extra image layers on top of the ice as well at a later point, to create some variation.

The rest of the process is really just zooming in and cleaning up the details! Not only does it make the image look neater and more refined, but it adds a pass of paintwork over the image that creates some consistency and a unified feel. While doing this I really try not to over-render. If you want to know more about that, here is a tutorial about rendering without over-rendering.

Hope you enjoyed this process and as always, please ask if you have any questions!
