Hey Patrons! As you know from my last post, I'm going to be making some changes to the patreon structure by adding a new tier. This new tier will be more interactive, with opportunities to share your work, do monthly challenges, and participate in Q&A sessions. I'm still working out the details and plan to announce the specifics of this new tier next month.

However, there's one thing that I wanted to announce further ahead of time. When I first started this patreon, I knew that I wanted to create monthly video content, and initially those were sketchbook tours. When I had gone through all of my sketchbooks, I switched to making tutorial content. When I started making those, I had no idea that I would be creating so many and that they would all be so long, but it felt very natural because I enjoyed teaching so much. By now, there are a total of 26 tutorials, and I've got many more planned because I have so much I still want to teach and share with you!

By now, a massive backlog of tutorials has accumulated and it has exceeded what I had initially had in mind for this simple $5 tier. It's something that has been bothering me for quite a while, so the time has come for me to make some changes there.

What I'll be doing is this: for the $5 tier, patrons will have access to my 5 best tutorials, plus the most recent one. The higher tier (price still to be determined) will give you access to the full backlog of tutorials. I will probably be implementing this new system in October, so you still have two months - August and September - before this change is implemented. Hopefully this is more than enough time to catch up on any older tutorials you want to see before the change is implemented. You can access the tutorials through the tutorial tag or through the list in this post.

I know that for some of you this will feel like a downgrade, but I really need to make this change as the volume of tutorials continues to grow way beyond what I had expected when I started out. I hope that you understand my reasoning and that this announcement ahead of time is helpful for those of you who want to access all of the tutorial content! As always, thanks so much for your support and for being on this journey with me. I'm so excited to create a more interactive environment for my Patrons and I'll keep you posted on the progress of the new tier ahead of the launch! ❤

Yep, more access should equal more money. Keep doing what you do, I'll just upgrade my support, so there :P

People don't understand how much time and work is involved in making videos and tutorials, I was surprised it was offered at the $5 tier and am thankful for what I've received but Patreon is nothing if not a community of your fans who want to see you succeed and be less stressed, and if that means pivoting with lessons learned, great! Thanks for the 2 month heads up tho. I can't afford to pledge higher at this time but it's plenty of time for me to access what I can and continue to support you going forward.

I definitely support this! With the wealth of knowledge you've given us, it's well above the $5 price. I feel like I've learned more than taking a super overpriced concept art course, so I'm more than happy to move on to the next tier. Excited to see what the next chapter brings :)

I’m seeing quite a bit of this already, but I want to voice my agreement. The creation of a new tier is wonderful, and you totally deserve to charge more than $5 for all of the work you put in here! I love seeing this stuff. However, losing that backlog of tutorials is super unfortunate. As others have said, there was always the assurance that the tutorials would always be in the Patreon feed if we didn’t want to download them. This was a big factor in my decisions not to download. The loss of the tutorial archive combined with a higher price makes the subscription questionable for me. Of course, it depends on the price of the higher tier - I would love to keep supporting you! I saw this suggested earlier, and I really like the idea. Could you make downloads available again for these two months before the change? That way people can still watch at their own pace without feeling frantic about watching all of them before it’s too late. I also like the idea of leaving the videos that are already here and then putting the future ones in the higher tier, but I understand you wanting to move them all. There’s a lot! (Thank you!) I like the gum road idea maybe for future tutorials - I agree that paying for those that we’ve already sponsored doesn’t make much sense. Anyway, I wish you the best with this! It’s very exciting that you have so many cool plans! I can’t wait to see it. ♥️

I will definitely be upgrading, as the tutorials have been instrumental to my skills improving as much as they have in the past year! and I wholeheartedly support you charging what your skills, time and teaching are worth, because it's true, $5 is a steal. I do want to echo people's concerns about losing access - I have downloaded files in the past, but then had to delete them when I didn't have enough space left on my computer. it would be good to have a way to still access them (whether via a gumroad download link, or unpublishing the existing $5 tier and adding a new one when the transition happens, so that the people already signed up can still go through the backlog on the feed?).

Your content is amazing and I am sure everyone wouldn't mind putting more in to support the amazing work you do!

Loish

yes, i think the concerns about accessing files that you sponsored are really valid and i'm going to look into a way to make it possible. i hadn't heard of the unpublishing technique, i will look into this!

Loish

thanks for your input! i will definitely look into this. at the very least i can make it possible for users to download the tutorials they sponsored before the new tier launches, and i'm going to research whether there are other options too.

thank you for the update!

I’m a new patron, I just started sponsoring like less than 2 weeks ago after finding out you had a Patreon. But you’ve inspired me for some years now. The knowledge you’ve passed onto me in these 2 weeks has been so priceless. When I first saw that your Patreon was $5, the first thing that came to mind was “how?” Lol. I definitely understand why you’re making this new tier and I support whatever you decide to do. And I thank you for everything! 💙

I also support the price increase, the value you put into your content is worth way more than $5. I also would be interested in being able to purchase tutorials on gumroad. I joined a few months after you started and while I have faithfully been downloading the content every month, I missed some of the earlier awesome tutorials.

Echoing off what a lot of others have already said... In the past I haven't been able to download videos due to device storage and I hate to loose access to all of the tutorials I've helped sponsor these last two years of supporting Loish. If we could get another download access window I would appreciate it and it would allow me to stay a $5 patron seeing as I don't have a large budget when it comes to things such as patreon, but I still want to support Loish. Also Loish I got your new artbook today from the kickstarter and it is amazing! You really outdid yourself with this one :)

Loish

hey jana! YAY! thanks for backing the kickstarter, glad you like the book! and yes, I've decided based on the feedback that I'll be sending out new download links to patrons who sponsored that month.

Ive been low-key supporting your patreon, sometimes checking to see: How does loish do this? As most of the people that responded are more engaged, I think it's useful to see some feedback more representative of the people who will leave. Your tutorials are awesome, you are awesome and I'm glad this path has become so fulfilling for you. However, considering I'm not watching your videos so regularly it's too much of an investment to support the 10 tier. Will check in though and who knows, I may be swayed back in :) Groetjes uit zeist

Loish

no problem at all arnhoud, and thanks so much for your support so far!

so glad you are doing this
