More animal sketching! I discovered a type of animal called the Aardwolf, which is a hyena-like creature that lives in Africa. It had such a cute little face that I had to do some studies. Trying to do more with looser brush-pen strokes, in a similar vein to the lemur studies I did earlier this week. Hope you like these! If you’re curious about my process for these and haven’t seen my inking tutorial yet, check it out here - I use pretty much the same tools and workflow for these sketches.

Also, a small update on this month’s tutorial: it wil be on painting water and I am editing it as we speak :) It will probably be posted early next week! Hope you guys have an amazing weekend ❤️

Hej Loish! When you do animal studies, do you make every pose by the reference or trying to turn the pose in space, from your head? Having a troubled time with that here!

Loish

i take every pose from reference! i definitely don't have the ability to draw these kinds of animals from memory!

Alright, same here. (:

Loish

Aardwolves are my favorite species of hyena and one of my favorite African animals! Have you seen any pictures of them all fluffed up in a threat/defensive posture yet? The babies are super duper cute as well! I really like how you drew them here, the volume really comes through and they look so floofy X)

I'd love to as well! It seems they're not very common in zoos, at least in the US. I've never seen any kind of hyena in person! D:
