June is almost over! I'm so excited for July because it's the month that I'm getting my first vaccine shot (on the 4th)! I'm honestly so emotional over it because it's the moment I've been anticipating for a year and three months. I'm terrified of needles but can't wait to move forward and hopefully out of this pandemic, and back into safe interactions with friends and family.

Here's a quick overview of how this month went for me:

SUMMER VIBES

After an extremely cold and rainy May, summer finally came to my country! This month has been sunny and warm, and I’ve also been on a little vacation in the south of France in the last weeks which is bringing new inspiration and energy. This has such a huge effect on my mood, and also my art! You might have noticed that this month’s art is more colorful and energetic than previous months. It’s been fun to dive into fresh and saturated tones again!

TUTORIAL TOPICS

I’ve completed all of the tutorials that were listed in the last poll! You guys were so excited about them that I decided to just do them all. I did find that the topics were very broad and it was harder for me to make the tutorials to-the-point. I’m pretty bad at keeping things concise and sometimes it was hard to make sure that it didn’t balloon into a super unfocused drawing session. Moving forward, I’ll be picking topics that are a bit more focused around a specific challenge. So rather than ‘drawing animals,’ it’ll be something like ‘conveying volume in animals’. I think that will lead to better tutorials and more interesting tips in the future!

Are there any specific art challenges that you're struggling with at the moment?

As always, thanks so much for your support! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

I just got my second shot 5mns ago and waiting to go out of the vaccination center while reading your post ! 😃 Happy for you that you could have your first one ! Currently I'm struggling with composition, but I didn't check if you already covered this topic. Thanks for the inspiration you give us !!

I struggle with proportions. I draw one arm too long or the legs too short or just a tiny neck. how do you know the correct size to draw limbs and torso compared to the head? thanks 🙏

I wanted to suggest some tutorial topics for next time: Foreshortening, Action poses and how to create more movement when drawing people in motion, how to stylize humans from reference photos, character design (I really love the narrative aspect of your art), drawing cats (I don‘t know if others find that interesting, too, but cats are so great and you always manage to capture their charisma and make them feel alive), and shading bodies and faces (something I really struggle with) Also thank you so much for your tutorials they always make my day :)

Thanks so much for everything Loish! <3 Right now I'm struggling a lot with keeping my hand steady when I'm inking, I get too nervous and shake a little, but I'll keep on trying!

I’d like to see the work processes for those 4 underwater pieces you’ve started btw. Or at least some layers of each. And perhaps the photos that inspired them? Unless you’re that good at drawing anatomy from your mind :D

Thank you so much, Loish!! <3

I would love to see more tutorials on the movements and flow through hair and the relationship with the hair on the body. I've been without a computer so long (three months!) so I'm excited to go through your tutorials. So ignore this, if its not applicable and you've already done it. Thanks for drawing so much and all the tutorials, its so inspiring!!

Loish

I think I recorded the process for those, so I could put together a video! the anatomy is from memory for those :)

Loish

good luck raquel! I haven't figured out the trick for a steady hand either. I just scribble as a substitute :)

Loish

congrats on your second shot!! I haven't covered composition yet, so this is definitely something I can cover in the future :)

I had my first vaccine shot on july 2, and it oddly cheered me up :) As for challenges, I‘m currently trying to come to terms with brushpen inking, and continue getting confused about line weights. There seem to be many conflicting guidelines, like have the stronger lines in the front, but also away from the light, thicker at bottom planes than the top, a general thin-thick-tihin stroke, etc. Others just seem to do whatever feels good, and it looks great :)

Loish

congrats with your vaccine shot! i guess you can very your approach to line weight depending on your own style. i always determine line weight based on 'flow' - basically thinking about whether it adds movement or not.

2023-03-05 23:00:12 Would like to second that call for help with shading bodies and faces, it's really hard for me to get natural skin tones! Either it ends up looking very flat or a muddy mess. And just shading in general or as you like to say "sculpting with colour", it seems quite intuitive for you but I can't quite get the hang of it. Thanks for all your tutorials and Q&As so far, I'm really learning so much!

2023-03-05 23:00:12 Which vaccine are you getting? I got both shots of the pfizer vaccine. The first dose came with arm pain for 3 days, and the second came with chills, a fever, and fatigue. Fun stuff. My immune system sucks though so I'm sure you won't have symptoms like I did. As far as what I struggle with, I struggle with drawing turnarounds and also trying to draw the characters multiple times while still maintaining their likeness. I want to start making a webcomic one of these days, so being able to draw the characters multiple times so they still look like themselves is hard. Also, perspective. IT'S MY ACHILLES HEEL! >_<

hey delilah! I got pfizer as well. I was exhausted for about 4 days after the first shot, and had the sore arm for a while too. I'm bracing myself for the worst with the second shot, since my reaction to the first one was already pretty bad. maintaining likeness is a struggle a lot of folks have, that would be a good topic for a future tutorial! thanks for sharing that with me :)
