The last day of May is here. It was the rainiest May I've ever experienced in my life! But now the weather is sunny and it's starting to feel more and more like summer! Here's a little review of how this month has gone for me:

ARTBOOK

I started writing my artbook this month, which I’ll be working on in shorter increments until September when the kickstarter launches. The book will be about my style, and I also want it to be a resource for artists who are searching for their own style. Because of that, I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot this month, and that shows in my art as well. I’ve been doing way more sketch sessions where I’m testing out how my style would work on different subject matter, or pushing stylistic elements a little further than I normally would.

Q&A

The Q&A session was my favorite part of this month! I loved being able to share my thoughts on artistic style in general, because it touches on a lot of topics that I’m super passionate about: the psychological side of art, and ways that we can boost our self esteem and creative passion as artists. From the questions I got, I sensed a lot of insecurity from artists who aren’t sure that they’re doing it “right.” I hope my answers are helpful for those of you who struggle with this!

TUTORIAL

For this month’s tutorial, I took a more improvisational approach than I normally do: I just kept it loose and followed my intuition on how to address the topics. I really enjoyed talking about foreshortening and using overlapping shapes to create it! There’s one last topic listed in the poll that I did in February, and that’s drawing animals! Do you have any questions about this topic? Drop them below so I know what to cover in the tutorial!

As always, thanks so much for your support! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

Hi Loish! Thanks so much for the updates and good luck on your next book, I'm looking forward to it and I also enjoyed the Q&A a lot! :) Regarding the animals drawing, I would like to know how to stylized them, because it's quite easy for me to draw them using reference, but the stylization and making it my own is the hardest part :)

Hi Loish, I have become your Patreon this month and I am really glad that I did. Thank you for sharing your experience with us with the amazing content you create. When I draw animals, I struggle with their fur and patterns, like when they are so fluffy or when they are black it becomes challenging for me.

Ahhh, I'm SO excited for your 3rd art book! Can't wait to see what you put into it :) I've loved your first two so much.

Thanks for everything Lois! These last few weeks I'm going through your previous tutorials I didn't take the time to watch yet. It's really interesting, as always I'm learning a lot. About the how to draw animals tutoriel, I always struggle to really get how they're "constructed" ! I would love to follow your reasoning when you analyze an animal structure!

Lois. First thank you for all the tutorials t you provided so far, I really enjoyed the Q&A , did answer some of my doubts about style. About the Animal tutorial, I find it hard to draw animals, that have large fur.

Rob Callicotte

Easy to be here and grateful. Looking forward to your next art book.

i've recently listened to your Q&A while practicing & it was really helpful & i got sooo motivated. thanks a lot again for your advices & supporting artists as always!! about the animal tutorial.. for me it is: 1. how do you construct faces (always having problems with great cat faces like cheetah or leos) 2. your tipps for short hair or shiny hair (for example here: weimaraner dog). can't wait for your upcoming art book!!

Loish

so glad you liked it! and those are great topics, i will try to address them in the tutorial!

Loish

really appreciate your support in getting the previous two :)

Loish

that's a really great suggestion, thank you! and of course thank you for your support!

Hi Lois, thanks so much for all the amazing stuff this month :) I just ordered your first 2 art books and I'm so excited for them to arrive! My question about animals is similar to a few other comments so far, I find textures really difficult still (not just with animals but everything) and I also really liked the comment talking about shiny fur - what about wet fur as well? Cant wait for the tutorial and thanks again

Just wanted to thank you for sending out the vids to patrons, instead of just keeping them on patreon… I watched the q&a videos a few days ago, and the video player literally needed to buffer once every minute, for the entire duration of each vid. It was painful but i powered through (and it was worth it, just for the record lol). Looking forward to rewatching them on my ipad, without the lag. I found the personal insights in these videos particularly helpful, as the psychological(?) aspects of art-making (and style) is something I tend struggle with myself, so hearing what you had to say on the matter was tremendously beneficial. I hope you continue to make these types of insightful videos going forward as well. :D

Loish

thanks for your kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed the videos, and I'll definitely be doing more Q&A videos in the future :)

T'was a fun month!! Mine is not a question but a request. I would love to see your process for doing the study-to-imagination routine to get amazing stylized animals like you do. It's always so impressive. This method is something I learned long ago and actually did for a while but have since fallen off. I would love to hear your thought process. Looking forward to whatever you give us Cheers!
