Time for a process video! Or to be more precise: three of them! I put together the process for my veiltail painting, which started off as the final result of my Procreate painting tutorial and was overhauled completely into this painting:

The first part is in real time, because that’s when I was making most of the creative decisions. If you want to speed it up or slow it down, just use the gear button in the vimeo player!

With this video, I started by doing a sort of re-sculpt, picking the colors that were already there to change her face. I felt her face was too soft and didn’t have enough of an angle to it, so the main thing I did was bring some angularity and perspective to the painting. You’ll see that I also use liquify from time to time to achieve that.

Later on I change the colors as well, because I felt like it was all too pink and pretty. I wanted to make the pink stand out more by desaturating the colors and turning the pink into an accent color. So you see me desaturating all the colors and carefully bringing back the pink gradually. I feel like less is more with colors: if you have a lot of a certain color it can feel like too much, but if you have less of it against a contrasting or neutral base color, then it will ‘pop’ more and be more visually interesting!

Hope you enjoy!

I’m so glad you posted the process of this because when I saw the finished piece I thought, how is it possible to finish something to that level of detail! Awesome artwork, thanks for sharing this!❤️

I recently subscribed to your Patreon and I am so happy to see this, this was what I was hoping for! I love this piece, especially the colours. I recently watched one of your videos where you explain how you use tools to change the colours as you go and it has been so helpful for me. I had been very naive in the past and assumed that stuff was like 'cheating' somehow but I'm realising how beneficial it is to the creative process. Looking forward to your future posts 💪
