Here’s the process video for the colorful heads I drew last month! It’s sped up twice the original speed, and as always, you can slow it down or speed it up by clicking on the gear button! The original drawing took about 2 and a half hours to make.

The process is more or less what’s described in this step-by-step, except with more vibrant colors: https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-33617344

Here’s the final drawing:

As always, let me know if you have any questions!

This is awesome! They all look like superheroes

I was looking forward to this one! I watched it over lunch today and it helped with my very ordinarily colored portrait studies I did later on.

Nice. So is this your typical workspace in PS? I've yet to peek at the history panel..

Hi Loish! I was wondering if you recorded the procreate process of the painting that was in your IG stories today? I really love the colors you’re using!

Loish

thanks! i did record it, and I made the first half in photoshop which was also recorded! I'll post it up soon!

Loish

yes, this is my ideal workspace! the navigator window gives me a thumbnail view, the history lets me click back to a much earlier step in the process, and the layers panel is also essential for me!

Loish

happy to hear that! i'm a big fan of just layering on random colors and testing to see what works!

i love this sooo much! may i ask you if your process is in RGB colorscale or in CMYK? i'm always unsure about that, normally i work in cmyk so there is no big suprise when you print it out & having better control. but i don't know if there is a better solution for more vibrant colors.

Loish

i always work in RGB because i feel like cmyk really mutes the blues! i'm usually happy with the print outcome despite that!

Hey Loish, how do you capture likeness in a portrait?

Anonymous

Haha okay the history panel went over my head a bit, I must switch brushes more often than I should. Gave it a good go for a couple pieces! So have you tried Corel Painter at all? Interestingly enough I don't see people talk about it much

Thank you so much for this!

I love your method for building a face. It’s so simple and makes it MUCH easier to understand difficult angles. I struggle with anatomy and proportions a lot but I must say since I’ve been watching these videos it’s not only motivated me to draw more but helps me understand where I’m going wrong. It also makes it more fun.

Loish

i try to get a good mix of copying the reference and also exaggerating some parts so that it also has the energy of the original! here's a little step-by-step that shows my basic process: https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-of-34294329

Loish

i'm so glad you find it useful! i'm always worried that these process videos are not interesting, but then again i'm my own worst critic. i'm always happy to spread my philosophy of " start simple and build detail gradually" :)

do you by any chance have that urge to render all of them? I know I would 😂 I love the colors that you choose here...it is so vibrant and fun to see

Loish

yes haha i always have that urge! but i love the look of rough art so I try to let it go as well :)

I think I’ve watched this about 12 times now lol watching you make art is so cool!

Hi loish! sorry if my grammar its bad, im not an english speaker, I have a small problem, I recently bought the macalab brush but I can't make it paint with the same intensity as yours, even with the flow at 100% it doesn't look as intense. Did you touch something in the brush settings?

Loish

hey! I didn't change anything, but I accessed it as a brush preset and not just as a brush. maybe that makes a difference? also make sure your tablet settings have a good pressure!
