Here's some sky studies that I started working on at Vertex in London last weekend! After the event, everyone headed over to a nearby rooftop bar and lots of people had their iPads and sketchbooks out, so I joined in and made a few quick studies. They're based on various photos I took over the course of the last months. I finalized them in photoshop, but I also posted the procreate version so you can see the difference!

I’d love a tutorial for drawing soft skies like that 😍

Thank you for posting the comparison! Even though Procreate is very popular, I feel like there are a lot of limits with what it can do, so I enjoy seeing the differences in how you detail your work!

The difference is visible, but maybe it is caused more by personal preferences than limits of the app? Just guessing, because in my case my works look much better made in Procreate, just because I prefer working there, even if Photoshop is so much more advanced. Just wondering! Anyway I always enjoy to watch your environment works. They have such a flow and ease. I also like how you are playing with form and shapes. That is something I try to improve.

I guess Lois already metioned it somewhere, but does anybody know which brushes she uses in Procreate? I know about the Razum Pro brush pack, but that´s not for Procreate 5 as far as I know.

Loish

I use maxpacks for the most part! the gouache set is amazing.

yeah i definitely think it's possible to create amazing art in the app! but i am just so much more comfortable with photoshop! i just know how to find the tools better and have a better 'flow' when i work in photoshop.

Thanks for sharing this! I’m in love with the yellow trees ❤️

I'm always loathe to do landscapes. I find them so intimidating. I did a few once when I was on a 100 day drawing challenge stint. I would love to have the confidence you do with your landscapes!

Lovely!

Loish

thanks! i don't feel very confident when I draw these, hahaha. it helps to practice and try some expressive, textured brushes!

Crazy how much Photoshop color editing makes a difference, right? I LOVE Procreate, but every time I transfer my drawings to PC, everything looks so dark and muddy! Beautiful work, thank you for sharing. ♥

So lovely and inspiring, as always! In case you didn't know: Photoshop now has an iOS app, so you can easily finish Procreate work in there, quite handy ^^

I don’t feel it’s fair to compare the two since it was started on procreate but wasn’t refined or tuned on it! The procreate version is a sketch or wip and when compared to the final product it will obviously look more rough haha

Hi loish. Sorry if this has already been asked. But was wondering what brushes you would recommend for environment painting. Or is it pretty much the same you use for your characters? Thank you so much.

Loish

hey! i have a post about which brushes i use that you can find here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-i-34615265 in general i recommend textured brushes that you can use for big surface areas as well as smaller details! the oil pastel brush from my free set is really great for landscapes i think. https://cubebrush.co/loish?product_id=4jk2jw
