A quick process video for the first half of Stargazer! Just the part that I did in procreate. For the most part, I used Maxpacks gouache brushes for this one. Hope you enjoy!

Wowwwwww this is sooo cool Lois!! Thank you for sharing!!! Definitely one of my favorite pieces from you.. Do you find procreate and the iPad a good medium to complete full pieces?

Loish

thanks so much! i think it's definitely possible to create full pieces on the ipad. especially when I see what other artists are doing with the app. personally, I always wanna finish stuff off in photoshop. i'm just much more familiar with the workflow in ps.

Ooh, I like seeing your thinking in this. It feels like for a chunk you were planning to have the feet mostly obscured by clouds and I do wonder what that version would feel like. I also really enjoyed seeing how you built up the shadows on her body out of very gestural shapes.

Loish

good observation! i sort of switched my focus from her connection the ground to having her looking and leaning upwards.

This piece gives me such a calming feeling when I look at it. Do you find that when you work in Procreate you work the same as you do in Photoshop? For example grouping the layers every so often.

Loish

thank you! i use a similar workflow when it comes to layers and modifying colors. but it feels very different to use it.

The upwards in the later version definitely feels like a stronger story. And I’ve been mostly working in Procreate for a while, so “reading” a full timelapse is not too difficult anymore, and it’s much easier with something where it’s art rather than is that a bug. Need to watch it a second time to think over how you’re using those hard on one side soft on the other brushes, it’s not something I’ve played with (much) but the effect is interesting. It’s a different take on a calligraphic line than the kind of stuff I’m fond of. Got a list of other bits to try and get straight in my head too, but half the fun of a timelapse is solving for yourself what the steps must be.

This is awesome :) I would love to see the rest of this piece coming together, the final character looks like such a strong woman to me!
