[DEVBLOG#131] Vanilla Animals Expanded - Cave (Patreon)
Content
ARACHNOPHOBIA WARNING.
Hello everyone and welcome to another mod development diary.
Aquiles, an old patron of our mods, and I have been working on a new Vanilla Animals Expanded mod. Since we have covered every single biome already, I think it's about time we go through the dark caves that rarely spawn on your mountain maps.
In vanilla rimworld, only insectoids spawn in the caves. We decided it's a good idea to change that a little bit, by adding some popular animals that only live in the darkness.
Now, of course, there really isn't that many animals living primarily in caves, so we let our imagination run wild, and took inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons to create something fitting for the underdark runs and cavern-bases.
Blind salamanders will come in various colors. If you manage to collect them all, your colonists might just find themselves quite happy!
Cave bears are ferrocious and loyal beasts that are excellent tames if your colonists are brave enough.
Insectoid Cave Crawlers are Giant anthropoid monsters. They can quickly kill your bravest adventurers with their potent venom. Don't worry tho! They are scavengers and only ear corpses.
Spider hatchlings are, well, baby spiders. Quite untame-able, with time, they grow into their adult variants.
Giant spiders are very dangerous predators if left unattended. If attacked, other spiders can come to their rescue.
Ancient Giant Spiders are incredibly rare creatures of immense threat. You won't see them too often, but when you do, you need a plan to get rid of them. They have a plethora of unique abilities to make your life a living nightmare, and they are known to lead packs of Giant Spiders.
There is a few more creatures being added, but I'd like to keep them as a surprise.
The spiders will come with a more 'vanilla-friendly' variant with no legs, which can be toggled on and off in mod options. We also plan to have a setting for Arachnophobic people.
That's it for this development blog. We have huge plans to be unraveled throughout the next weeks, so make sure to check your email very often!
