Vanilla Factions Expanded - Mechanoids brings a new faction of mechanoids to the battlefield.

The mechanoids you meet in ancient ruins are remnants of old conflicts, lost machines whose human commanders are long dead, these machines are ancient and simply follow their old directives - to kill any enemies they see.

The new faction is brand new, custom made mechanoids, not ancient ones. Therefore they need a new style to make them look different. We have been trying to find a correct colour for them to use, and in this survey I'd like you to pick the ones you think you like most. You can pick more than one!

Please notice that number 1 is the original mechanoid color.

The colour you help me pick will define everything about this faction - all structures, weapons, pawn kinds and the general vibe of it. Choose carefully. And no, I won't add an option to change the colours mid-game.

I think Pure white offers the best contrast to the aging, ancient mechs.

I’ve chosen ancient mainly because it will make the old ancient mechanoids look very out of place. Are these new mechanoids going to raid you and have bases like the new insectoids?

Yes they will. Story wise they are brand new, not related to the ancient ones hence I personally wouldn’t pick ancient, but I left it up to community to pick

I think white gives a "factory new" feel which could contrast well. Though I hope that doesn't mean 100% monochrome.

Can I pay for you to recolour them as ancient when it comes out lmao. Insectoids expanded is why I argue against this colour difference as well, would’ve of been nice to just raid mechanoid bases that included centipedes, lancers as well as the new variants. The mechanoid war is long gone so them being brand new makes it feel kinda wrong when ancient ones still exist. Anyway still excited nonetheless.

I personally think the "ancient mechanoids" look just look like... Mechanoids. It's kind of their associated palette, you see that slight tinge of green and think "Mechanoid." If it were an option I'd have chosen somewhere between pure and ancient, but that's just my opinion.

The problem is, they are two separate styles of mechanoids - imagine ancients being on the planet for thousands of years, we need a new colour palette by the rogue new ones that were produced within last month. Not only that, but the new mechanoids will be hostile to the ancient ones - if they were the same colour, it would be confusing.

Lore wise, albeit mechanoid war being over, mechanoids are still used by almost all the governments in combat, exploration and resource gathering, they are the bread and butter of space colonisation and warfare. These mechanoids added by this mod are sent by some government to wipe out the civilisation off of this Rimworld and prepare it for easier excavation by the resource harvesters. They will be hostile against ancient mechanoids, so having them all in the same colour could be confusing as you will have two identical lancers firing at each other.

Ahh thats it at the end thats semi convinced me, thought they were just mechanoids+ which wouldve been nice and simple, mechanoid strongholds and the new units. I assume all these new types won't be added to the orignal mechanoid faction then? They'd be kinda bland and stale if not, just a shitty version of this brand new faction that actually seems interesting, suppose i can just replace textures using the new ones. Another semi related comment. Heretic mechanoids made by helixien, any chance of future support with this mod and 1.2? Really love the art designs on these, the marhsal being my favourite.

The new mechanoids won’t get added to the ancient mechanoid pool, no, I am not touching them same way I didn’t touch vanilla insectoids at all. As for heretic mechanoids, I made art for those, so you can expect the same level of quality if not better.
