Hello everyone and welcome to another mod development diary.

Today we are taking a cheeky look at some of the new kinds of meal ingredients we are adding to the game, and most particularly, the fishing mechanic.

We have taken a look at all the fishing mods out there, and none of them seems to blend in too much with vanilla. They all feel like either an unnecessary chore, or they stick out with the not-so-blending artstyle.

The way we have planned our fishing mod (which is a part of our new cooking mod series - Vanilla Cuisine Expanded), is that alongside growing zones, you also have the beautiful blue fishing zones. They can only be placed on rivers and oceans. A new work type is available called fishing, which uses Animals skill.

Pawns assigned to fishing will go to the fishing zone, grab their fishing rod and fish. Obviously. Depending on their skill, the biome they are in and whether it's an ocean fishing zone or a river, they have a chance of catching one of 30 different kinds of fish. The quantity varies depending on skill. There is also a slight chance of catching some junk - components, bits of leather etc.

Fish doesn't need to be butchered or anything - it can be used immediately as a cooking ingredient.

Additionally, it's easier to catch fish at dusk and dawn! Micromanaging is not required, but the extra 20% is worth it.

Without further a-do, let's take a look at the fish!

I'd like to thank everyone for your support again. You can expect something very sweet in the next development blog! Now let me get back on with my holidays.

You aren’t a modder, you are a mod factory.

Loving this. I have the same reservations about using a fishing mods. But this with may we call it the vanilla branded look and feel will be a Mandatory must have to play

30 different fish? Holy crap! Does this mean other modules in VCE will have similar variety?

oskarpotocki

Possibly. When you think about it, there is around 30 animals in the game, which means about 30 types of meat. It’s only proper fish have the same variety.

hmgirlpopuri

Not sure how I feel about the variety. Currently using a mod where animals just drop 'raw meat' for stockpile sanity sake.

I am fully aware I won’t be able to please everyone, hence if simplicity is what you’re after, I doubt this will be a mod for you. Sorry for that.

I'm a bit late on this dev', but is the Vanilla Cuisine expanded gonna work with RimCuisine ? Since there's already some sort of integration with other Vanilla Expanded mods !

oskarpotocki

Quite unsure as of yet. Vanilla Cuisine Expanded is going to be a multi-module mod that if downloaded whole, replaces rimcuisine with our own approach to cooking, without flooding the player with recipes for hundreds of tiny ingredients.
