This month I've begun work on three new packs. Planetside, for all you space cowboys out there, Cyberpunk for the Chooms, and Xeno for anyone building alien ships, generic or specific to well known scifi.
For the start of these packs, I focused on patterns and terrains first. Those big ticket items inform the rest of the design, making them a top priority. Combined with the 1,500 other assets in the existing HellScape art set, these new packs open up many additional map opportunities.
PlanetSide
(shout out to Acatalepsy, who provided some great inspiration for the start of this pack!)
Use the new terrain types to build out your alien worlds. There is a new 'edge' path in all three of the terrain colors, which you can use to make cliffs, craters or transitions into patterns. Each color set also has a slew of rocks in all sizes. I've opted to leave these without shadows, but please do provide feedback on this.
Additionally, PlanetSide has a bunch of new walls, from thin to padded to armored. As with other HellScape walls, you'll find 'half' versions you can use to have different wall types on the inside vs. outside. Remember to place all doors and windows twice so that they apply to both overlapping walls.
And don't forget the new wheels and yoke. Now you can build your own buggy, rover or land vehicle!
Xeno
Worry not, Xeno will not just consist of slimy alien goo. As you see with the 'false god' assets (kree!), Xeno will eventually extend to anything non-human and generally space-bound.
I will add color variants as I go along, but feel free to let me know what inspires your design so I can address your needs.
Cyber/Cyberpunk
For this pack, I started at street level, imagining what you'd need to make your maps stand out and scream 'Rick Deckard was here!' New concrete, sidewalks and curbs are provided in this pack.
In the rain-soaked future, one item was clearly needed above all others; clear umbrellas! You also get a boring opaque recolorable version.
The next big additions to Cyber will likely be copious neon signs, letters and symbols. Continuing with the 'on the street' vibe, I'd like to bring you bodegas, street venders and little tech-y do-dads that you can plop down to add a more futuristic vibe.
State of the HellScape
This month we nearly made it to 100 Patrons. That's incredible, and I again thank you all for sticking with me. I'm sure you're all going through your own struggles in these crazy times, but your patronage actually kept the lights on over here at HellScape studios this month, and for that I can't thank you enough.
If you're looking for the best way to put these assets to use, especially if you're a Foundry user, make sure you check out Baileywiki's YouTube channel. I for one am now using Monks Active Tiles to automat all kinds of events in my games.
