one of my favorite lines in the entire series has got to be "I never forgave Brian. I didn't have to. Because he never promised me anything. Unlike you." cuz that's really what it came down to. Ethan hurt Justin way worse because Ethan did all the romance, said all the sweet somethings, made promises, and then at the first chance he had, he betrayed him. Brian may not have done well at the romance and saying or showing his feelings 98% of the time, but that's Brian. He has a lot of deep-seated issues with love and intimacy (something that he HAS improved in since the start of the series but his improvement feels like a snail's pace to people--I quite enjoy it as a viewer myself. Brian's character growth is *chefs kiss* Gotta be one of my favorites if not my absolute favorite from television), but in his own ways, he was as loyal to Justin as he could be. He never betrayed the rules they set, never stepped out on the relationship he and Justin DID have. I remember the first time I watched this, these eps with Ethan in them felt like forever. I honestly couldn't and still can't stand seeing him on screen. From his 1st appearance, I couldn't stand him. Yes, part of that is him being in the way of my ship, but also just his character is so... pretentious and slimy, I just can't stand that sort of character. 1st time I watched QaF, the name "Ethan" literally became my least favorite name, that's how much I couldn't stand him. It's kinda funny when I look back on it now that I couldn't stand him that much, but I was also like 15 when I first saw this and now I'm 29 so. I also absolutely love the conversation between Ben and Mikey when Mikey threatens to use Ben's needle to make himself positive. He was so angry and hurt and Ben became so terrified and woke up to the things he'd been saying and what he really felt. I've always loved them as a couple so much and I love scenes like that so it has to be one of my favorite scenes of theirs.

Brian's character growth truly is something very amazing and perfectly developed. I hate when a show takes there "troubled" character and quickly makes them this changed and understanding person. It's not real when it's done like that and therefore it's just not satisfying.
