They call the crystal "Amber" in the show. But it's basically the same thing xD Let me make you proud is one of my favorite songs of the whole series....but the Reprise...oohh I love me some Jeremy Jordan. After seeing this series, I went down the rabbit hole with him. I watched Smash, Supergirl, Newsies, Bonnie and Clyde, the last 5 years...anything with him in it, I watched or listened to cast albums with him in it. I love him lol. Honestly, the whole Varian situation is so interesting and makes his character so complex. In the movie, Rapunzel makes it clear that when she makes promises, she never ever breaks them. She even promised Gothel to go with her to heal Eugene, and Gothel trusted it so much she let her. So the fact that she promised to figure out how to stop the rocks and to help Varian but couldn't fulfill the promise is huge. Also, keep in mind Varian is a 14-year-old boy who, though very smart is still an angsty teenager who blames the world for his problems (even if technically he's the one to blame..he's the one who was testing on the rocks when his father said not to and created the Amber the encases his father) Plus his song is so heartbreaking when you listen to the lyrics. All he wants is for his father to accept him and to make him proud. Gah, I love it so much. Though I love the whole series, season one is still my favorite, mostly because of this second half of the season xD
