Unfortunately the actor that played Eko had asked to be written off the show because he didn't like living in Hawaii where they filmed Lost. Its too bad because his character is one of the best in the entire show.

I wish I could better explain my theories about why and what exactly The Smoke Monster's motives were for killing Eko now, but I'm afraid that would reveal too much of the show's ultimate mysteries/spoilers. I know of course why Eko was written out of the show IRL, but in the show's plot basically I think old Smokie had no further use for Eko. One thing about the sounds the smoke monster makes, just because it sounds a certain way doesn't mean it's making those exact tactile noises. Some things in sci-fi/etc can theoretically be imagined to have similar sounds to real world objects. Sounds design can also be very creative. One of the tornado's in the movie Twister made the sound of a lion, the T-Rex in Jurassic Park made the sound of an elephant but it has no trunk. I remember one engine in Star Wars actually being an electric shaver motor which has been slowed down to a lower register. Blaster sounds in Star Wars are made by hitting an antenna support wire with a wrench.
