Delphinus was a daimon (being between the human and godly realm) that assisted the god Poseidon in his quest for the hand and dowry of the daughter of the original god of the sea (Nereus.)

As a reward, the gold digger Poseidon made a constellation out of him, and that's all. Dolphins appear in a couple more of minor myths, enough to say that Greeks found them quite nice animals.

And they're truly nice, with those round appearances, they're always-smiling beak, their friendliness, and their explosive sexuality.

(It's reported that dolphins tend to have long-lasting relationships with the members of their gender, while they meet the other just occasionally for reproductive purposes.)

So nice and charming that they contaminated my idea of a winged merman.

Yeah, initially a tough about a merman inspired to a manta or a flying fish, not the other way around. Pretty proud of this idea that's the most original so far.

What to say about this species? Well, imagine a dolphin and give him the ability to fly and talk. Quite funny, no?
