We don't want to beat around the bush, we think it's only logical that you should be the first to know. Our colleague Val, who was in charge of translations, due to incompatibility with her job and her current situation, is leaving CHR translations. We are very grateful to her for the five episodes she has translated and for the quality and commitment she has shown in each of them. However, this situation puts us in a complicated place. While our perspective compared to a year ago is MUCH better, it's still a crisis situation for us.

Our plan is to open calls for applications and rescue the emails of all those people who were still interested in being contacted to translate our game in case we open a second call for applications. We know that there will be people who will volunteer, but we don't want that to mean accepting any kind of quality or deadline. We consider ourselves flexible in terms of time, but quality is not something we will negotiate. So even if we are confident that we'll have applications, we aren't sure that they'll make the cut. We have no reason not to be optimistic, but it's true that this is a turning point.

If we don't get any applications that make the cut, we'll have to move on to a professional translation, which would involve a monetary cost. At this stage, we have managed to save some money, which could secure a few more episodes. We estimate 4 to 6 more episodes. We would probably get extra funding along the way to bring out some more, but we can't estimate how many more. However... CHR has 13 episodes left, which means we don't have funding for the whole game, only for (at best) half of what's left. If we are forced to get to this point we'll try to get a gofound or some kind of complementary funding, but... If we don't get it? Well, this is where we get into the worst case scenario.

Currently, we have before us chapter 10, an end-of-arc chapter. As an ending it would be somewhat disappointing, but it would be much better than leaving it halfway through production of the third and final arc. We could go on and on until we see where we get to and end where funding allows, but it seems much fairer to the player to end it at the end of an arc with a 'denouement of events' than in the middle of a chapter where we don't know if we'll see the action conclude. So we can guarantee the release of episode 10 and the rest will depend on the nominations and the forecast we manage to make for the funding. However, we insist that this would be the WORST case scenario.

The good thing about all this is that it's a good time for this situation. Precisely because it's the end of an arc and because we are beginning its production. This gives us time to open and close the call, make the selection or discard and incorporate it into the same chapter that we are now creating. If we don't manage to do this, we would go on to draw on our savings and we would also make sure to see what prices and deadlines are being offered in the market. With this information we would also be able to make a more accurate and not so speculative forecast of expenditure, because, although we have looked at some prices, we have not really got into it.

With all this information we would like to ask you what you think about all this and if you would prefer us to go ahead even if we could not guarantee the end of CHR or if, like us, you think it would be better to close after the end of the arc. We insist that there is no reason to be catastrophic and we assure you that we want to continue working on the project and we will fight for it. We would even consider an 'indefinite hiatus' until we get the money we need from alternative sources (Witch Tales or the famous artbooks). Abandoning CHR is not in our minds and we don't think we will find ourselves in this situation either, but we have to be realistic and know that, although remote, this could be a possibility.

No queremos andarnos con rodeos, nos parece lógico que además seáis los primeros en saberlo. Nuestra compañera Val, que se encargaba de traducir, por incompatibilidad con su trabajo y su situación actual, abandona las traducciones de CHR. Le estamos muy agradecidas por los cinco episodios que ha traducido y por la calidad y compromiso que ha demostrado en cada uno de ellos. No obstante, esta situación nos pone en un lugar complicado. Si bien nuestra perspectiva frente a la de hace un año es MUCHO mejor, aún es una situación de crisis para nosotras.

Nuestro plan es abrir convocatorias y rescatar los emails de todas aquellas personas que aún se mantenían interesadas en ser contactadas para traducir nuestro juego en caso de abrir una segunda convocatoria. Sabemos que habrá gente que se ofrecerá, pero no queremos que eso implique aceptar cualquier tipo de calidad o plazo. Nos consideramos flexibles en cuanto a los tiempos, pero la calidad no es algo que vayamos a regatear. Por eso, aunque tengamos la certeza de contar con candidaturas, no tenemos la seguridad de que vayan a pasar el corte. No tenemos motivos para no ser optimistas, pero es cierto que este es un punto de inflexión.

En caso de no obtener ninguna candidatura que pase el corte, habrá que pasar a una traducción profesional, lo que implicaría un coste monetario. A día de hoy, hemos conseguido ahorrar algo de dinero, con lo que se podrían asegurar unos cuantos episodios. Calculamos que entre 4 a 6 episodios más. Probablemente, en el camino obtendríamos financiación extra para sacar alguno más, pero no podemos estimar cuántos más. No obstante… a CHR le quedan 13 episodios, lo que significa no tener una financiación para todo el juego, solo para (en el mejor de los casos) la mitad de lo que queda. Si nos vemos obligadas a llegar a este punto trataremos de sacar un gofound o alguna clase de financiación complementaria, pero… ¿Si no la obtenemos? Bueno, aquí es donde nos ponemos en el peor de los escenarios posibles.

Actualmente, tenemos ante nosotras el capítulo 10, un capítulo de fin de arco. Como final sería algo decepcionante, pero sería mucho mejor que dejarlo a media producción del tercer y último arco. Podríamos seguir hacia delante hasta ver donde llegamos y terminar donde la financiación nos permita, pero nos parece mucho más justo para el jugador que termine en un final de arco con un ‘desenlace de acontecimientos’ que en mitad de un capítulo cualquiera donde no sabemos si veremos concluir la acción. Por eso, podemos garantizaros la salida del episodio 10 y el resto dependerá de las candidaturas y de la previsión que consigamos hacer de la financiación. No obstante, insistimos en que este sería el PEOR de los escenarios.

Lo bueno de todo esto, es que es un buen momento para esta situación. Precisamente porque es un final de arco y porque estamos comenzando su producción. Lo que nos da tiempo a abrir y cerrar convocatoria, hacer la selección o descarte e incorporarlo al mismo capítulo que ahora estamos creando. Si no lo conseguimos, pasaríamos a tirar de los ahorros y también nos aseguraríamos de ver qué precios y plazos se nos ofrece en el mercado. Con esta información también podríamos hacer una previsión de gastos más precisa y no tan especulativa, pues, aunque hemos consultado algunos precios, no nos hemos metido de lleno en ello.

Con todo esta información nos gustaría preguntaros a vosotros qué opináis de todo esto y si preferirías que siguiéramos adelante aún si no podríamos garantizar el final de CHR o como nosotras, pensáis que lo mejor sería cerrar tras finalizar el arco. Insistimos en que no hay motivos para ser catastrofistas y os aseguramos que nosotras queremos continuar trabajando en el proyecto y vamos a luchar por él. Incluso nos plantearíamos el ‘hiatus indefinido’ hasta obtener los recursos monetarios que necesitamos por fuentes alternativas (Witch Tales o los famosos artbooks). Abandonar CHR no está en nuestra cabeza y tampoco creemos que nos encontremos en esta situación, pero, tenemos que ser realistas y saber que, aunque remota, ésta podría ser una posibilidad.
