Final Plans for the Future of this Patreon (Patreon)
Content
tl;dr: I've decided I will in fact be pulling back my time here on Patreon. I will be using this as a tipping platform where in return I will be doing only one monthly update. I have reduced tier rewards according to this change, although tiers will not be deleted unless patronage of a tier reaches zero, since doing so can cause complications.
NOW THE LONG VERSION:
So the time has come for me to make a concrete decision about my future, at least for so long as the decision can hold. I've decided I will in fact be reducing my activity here on Patreon. For reasons I previously discussed here, I do not feel comfortable closing my Patreon page entirely, so I will be dropping it down to a single monthly update simply to keep this page active. I have also changed my tier rewards to reflect this, where all future content will be available to all tippers. I had considered making all posts free immediately, but Patreon requires keeping NSFW posts locked behind patronage, which is what's always excluded me from using the early access feature of this platform.
Updates here will continue to be Star vs. the Forces of Evil illustrations and one-shots. This will also help keep me in practice with the style in case I need to return to Patreon and start another long form comic in the near future, or in case I simply decide to do monthly updating shorter comics. As for now though I will not be promising anything requiring a commitment here.
As stated before, the biggest factor in this decision is that I simply want to invest my time into other things that are not viable for Patreon. I still believe Patreon is a great platform, despite the bad reputation they've received for enforcing their payment partner policies. Despite many undesired outcomes, Patreon has always been very helpful and understanding with me. Without Patreon playing strictly under the rules of the payment systems to maintain a stable platform, I'm sure I and many other content creators would not be here today. Patreon enabled people to become independently successful doing things I could hardly dream of being sustainable just 10 years ago.
However, after the years of support I have received from all of you, I am in a much more comfortable position to no longer feel the same sense of reliance towards Patreon. Alternatives exist, and while I still don't believe there are any as stable as Patreon without following the same rules, I'd like to utilize other options while they exist. If this proves unsustainable at any point I can simply come back here without sweat and start a new project.
With this decision I'm sure I'll lose many of my supporters here, but I want you all to know that I appreciate all of the support I've received until now and into the future. I know many of you have asked, or will ask, that I direct you to where I am reinvesting my time into, but sadly I cannot do so. Please do not ask in the comments, nor try to direct people in the comments on my behalf. Patreon requires I not only be extremely careful with the type of content I publish, but also where I can link or direct people to, as well as making sure I moderate users that may also infringe on these rules. This constant treading on egg shells is exactly why I want to invest my time elsewhere, but I can't stop treading lightly if I want to keep this page active as a backup for the future.
