Chapter 56

Rod was feeling victorious, intending to deliver a fatal blow to Ling Chunann. But unexpectedly, upon hearing Ling Chunann's words, his expression stiffened, swiftly replaced by a surge of indignant anger seizing his chest.

The onlookers, who had just been mocking Ling Chunann moments ago, were caught off guard.

"Did you hear that? It seems like the Third Prince is planning a counterattack?"

"Ah? So, making a comeback in just three moves was true! I actually thought the Third Prince was incapable of retaliation."

"But I still think the Third Prince won't win. Rod's strength speaks for itself. It's too difficult for the Third Prince to counterattack."

Listening to the discussions of the crowd, Rod's anger slightly subsided. Indeed, even if this guy had held back, so what? He was a seventh-level mage now. Even if Ling Chunann were an eighth-level magician, he wasn't afraid.

With this thought, Rod's confidence surged. His originally reserved tenfold strength suddenly increased to twelvefold, and with a relentless momentum, he launched his attack towards Ling Chunann, combining magic and sword techniques.

The powerful energy caused the barrier at the edge of the arena to tremble violently. Students outside the barrier exclaimed in shock, some timid ones already preparing to flee, while instructors hurriedly reinforced the barrier to prevent panic.

By now, Rod's attack had taken shape. Seeing Ling Chunann still unmoved, seemingly stunned, a murderous intent flashed in Rod's eyes.

"Host, be careful!" 098 couldn't help but shout.

Everyone, including the instructors, was dumbfounded by Rod's attack. They had never imagined that a mage could be this strong!

The Crown Prince, who had just been casually chatting with others moments ago, now held his breath, watching the scene without daring to blink.

Rod, a fire mage, made the heat of the flames palpable even to those outside the arena. The air seemed to be sucked dry in an instant. The red flames completely enveloped the arena, making Ling Chunann appear like a tiny boat in a raging sea, so small that it seemed it could capsize at any moment, causing people to sweat profusely for him.

Ling Chunann had already strictly ordered the Dragon to not intervene in his battle before entering the stage. While the Dragon dared not defy his orders, knowing Ling Chunann had his own plans, it couldn't help but take a step forward. How dare this little ant treat his treasure like this!

The Crown Prince subconsciously glanced at the man not far away, trembling slightly. Though he knew this man was extraordinary, he had never felt the man's abilities so distinctly before, to the point that just standing there made it hard for him to breathe.

Just when everyone thought Ling Chunann was undoubtedly doomed, he finally moved.

"Boom!!!" A loud noise erupted from the arena, followed by a thick fog completely obscuring everyone's view.

After a few silent seconds, the students watching erupted in exclamations.

"What happened?"

"Did Rod just hit the Third Prince? I think I saw the Third Prince retaliate!"

"I can't see anything. Does anyone know what happened?"

"Who won?"

Inside the white fog, Ling Chunann stood with one foot on Rod's back, his aura as an eleventh-level magician pressing down on him, completely suppressing him due to the level difference.

His strongest move had been broken, and Rod hadn't even recovered yet.

After a while, Rod coughed up blood, his eyes filled with disbelief, his voice hoarse and terrifying, "This can't be! How is this possible? How could you be so powerful?" He hadn't even seen how Ling Chunann had moved, and yet his entire move had been completely dismantled.

"Why can't I be this powerful?" Ling Chunann retorted.

Rod spat out another mouthful of blood in anger.

Ling Chunann kindly moved his foot aside, looking down at Rod condescendingly, his voice amiable, "Actually, I just got lucky. When you charged at me earlier, you accidentally revealed a flaw. I'm not really that powerful. If you don't believe me, get up and try again."

"Host, pretending like this will get you beaten up," 098 couldn't help but think.

Of course, 098 didn't dare say it out loud. It looked around at the mist, somewhat regretful that apart from itself and the protagonist, no one else had witnessed the glory of its host. Otherwise, many would probably want to beat him up.

What surprised 098 the most, however, was that Rod seemed to actually believe Ling Chunann's bluff. Struggling to stand up, he prepared to fight him again.

The gap between eleventh and seventh levels was impossible to bridge no matter what. Watching the protagonist being knocked down by Ling Chunann again, 098 couldn't help but want to cover its eyes. It was too pitiful; the protagonist was completely at the mercy of the other party.

In the end, Rod couldn't get up anymore. He couldn't believe it. He was the protagonist. How could there be someone stronger than him?

"How did you do it?" Rod suddenly remembered his previous speculation. His eyes widened. "You also crossed over?"

"Huh?" Ling Chunann looked puzzled.

By now, Rod had firmly established this speculation in his mind. When Ling Chunann attacked him just now, he obviously used some acupuncture technique; otherwise, he wouldn't have lost so miserably! And all these changes began after their encounter in the small town outside the Magic Beast Forest. The more Rod thought about it, the more certain he became. He immediately said, "You crossed over from the Magic Beast Forest, and you're from the martial arts world, right?"

"What are you talking about? What martial arts?" Ling Chunann looked puzzled. "If you want to admit defeat, just call the referee. There's no need for these inexplicable words."

With Rod's eyesight, it was naturally impossible to see through Ling Chunann's acting. His face was covered in bloodstains, making him look quite terrifying, as if he had fallen into despair. He kept repeating, "Impossible! If it were the original Third Prince, how could he possibly beat me?"

At this moment, the mist on the stage gradually dispersed, and the people outside the arena finally saw the situation inside.

First, everyone saw Ling Chunann standing fresh and clean in the center of the arena, then they noticed Rod lying at his feet, almost unrecognizable.

As the main character in the harem novel, Rod's original appearance, although not incredibly handsome, could still be described as somewhat charming. But now, after being tossed around by Ling Chunann, if it weren't for the fact that only the two of them were on the stage, nobody would recognize the person lying on the ground.

The people who had been so sure that Ling Chunann would lose were now speechless. The difference was just too drastic.

"Can someone tell me what just happened?" After a while, someone finally spoke up hesitantly, "I seem to have seen Senior Rod lose?"

"I think I had the same illusion," someone else chimed in.

"The Senior Rod who was always undefeated actually lost to the Third Prince. I remember a few months ago, someone told me that Senior Rod defeated the Third Prince effortlessly. Was that just a rumor?"

"It seems it was indeed a rumor. I've only heard about how powerful Rod is before. I specifically took the time to watch this championship battle to see how formidable the so-called unique mage-warrior combination is. I didn't expect him to be defeated so easily. It's disappointing. Maybe the Third Prince is even more formidable. Although he usually keeps to himself, it's understandable for a genius to be a bit arrogant."

The person's voice wasn't lowered, so both Ling Chunann and Rod on the stage could hear it. Hearing others agreeing, Rod, who had planned to gain prestige in the academy competition, felt all his efforts were in vain. Thinking about this, he spat out blood and fainted.

"Reversal value +20%, current reversal value is 70%, please continue your efforts, Host." 098's voice sounded excited. Host is doing great!

When Rod woke up again, it was already the next day. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw the worried expressions of the sister duo.

"Rod, are you awake? How do you feel?" The elder sister stuffed a pillow behind him to make him more comfortable.

The younger sister brought a cup of water, "Rod, are you thirsty? Have some water."

Rod remained silent for a while. In the worried gaze of the two sisters, he muttered something, but because his voice was too low, they didn't hear it clearly.

"Rod, what did you say?" the elder sister asked.

Rod spoke again, and this time the two finally heard what he said. After hearing it clearly, both of them looked incredulous.

"Get out! Get out!" Seeing the two sisters unmoved, Rod knocked over the water cup in the younger sister's hand with a slap.

There was a loud bang as the water cup fell to the ground and shattered into pieces.

"Sister, let's go outside." The younger sister pulled the elder sister, who seemed to want to persuade Rod again.

"We'll be outside. Rod, if you need anything, just call us." The elder sister glanced at her younger sister's aggrieved expression, but in the end, she didn't say anything and left with her sister.

Just a moment after they left, Rod's heart-rending screams came from inside, "How is this possible! How could he beat me! I'm the main character!"

"Sister, what is Rod saying?"

"I don't know, but it should be about the Third Prince."

While Rod was having a tantrum over there, Ling Chunann was having a pleasant meal with the Crown Prince. Of course, when I say pleasant, it's only the Crown Prince. He shamelessly followed Ling Chunann to the villa where he currently lives with the Dragon, insisting on having a meal.

Ling Chunann rarely encountered someone who wasn't afraid of the Dragon's stern face and found it quite amusing.

However, the Dragon, who had originally planned to celebrate the victory with his treasure, was now feeling a bit unhappy. Seeing the Crown Prince just finishing his meal, he said, "It's getting late. Crown Prince, please excuse me. I won't see you out."

The Crown Prince looked at the still bright sky, coughed, cleared his throat, "Well then, I'll take my leave. Third Brother, remember to come back to the palace when you have time. Big Brother will miss you."

Ling Chunann was about to reply when he saw the Dragon throw the Crown Prince out.
