Chapter 316: The Invisible Disaster

The white smoke font often acts like a rigid information system, providing varying amounts of data based on the encountered entities.

For instance, the entities within the forest of Devil Island, whether living or dead, can display substantial amounts of information, much of which remains unknown to the world of hunters.

Take the stone relief door in Stajy’s tomb, for example. The information it provided was unknown, and while the humanoid bandage in front of them did give information, it was alarmingly brief, seemingly in the order of: title, category, name, origin.

The intelligence provided was only this; it didn’t reveal the weaknesses of the humanoid bandage.

“Dark Continent…”

Luo whispered to himself as he watched the bandage fly off into the distance.

The black cat, having escaped from the humanoid bandage’s grasp, returned to Luo’s side and overheard his whisper, making a human-like eyebrow-raising motion and said, “Is it something from the Dark Continent?”

The black cat was aware of the Dark Continent. Despite having an independent soul and above-average intelligence, its creation stemmed from Luo, its host, copying much of its knowledge, including the understanding of the Dark Continent.

When it first emerged, it tried to mislead Luo’s perception of it using the term “Dark Continent.”

This was an autonomous action made by it as a Nen Beast, a characteristic only possessed by Nen Beasts with intelligence far exceeding the average.

It was like a puppet suddenly gaining human-like intelligence and autonomy. Would the puppet still want to be controlled by humans?

Regrettably, although the puppet could act autonomously, the strings controlling it were still in human hands. However, it couldn’t be denied that the puppet became more flexible despite its increased autonomy.

The black cat was such a puppet, but its capabilities far surpassed most Nen Beasts.

“Do you have a way to deal with it?” The black cat looked at Luo, its previous entrapment still fresh in its mind, unable to comprehend how the bandage monster, devoid of Nen, could confine it.

If it were a Nen user, would they also be immobilized? Coupled with the terrifyingly high concentration of toxic smoke, it would be a nightmare for any living being.

“Not for now, but there’s a method we can try,” Luo said seriously, watching the bandage start to reassemble its humanoid form in the distance.

“What method?” the black cat asked.

Luo suddenly turned his head, looking at the black cat’s mouth.

“What are you planning?” the black cat asked, retreating a few steps in caution.

“Where did the stones and sand you swallowed go?” Luo asked.

As soon as stones and sand were mentioned, the black cat bristled, angrily saying, “I don’t know!”

“Did you digest them, or did they go into some unknown space?” Luo ignored the black cat’s reaction and continued to ask.

Hearing Luo’s persistent questions, the black cat, not being foolish, immediately understood Luo’s intention—he wanted it to swallow the bandage monster.

“Don’t even think about it! That weird monster, I’m not taking the risk!” The black cat flatly refused, seeing through Luo’s proposed method.

Luo glanced at the humanoid bandage that had reformed and then summoned a book, saying calmly, “As long as this book exists, you won’t disappear, right?”

The black cat looked at the dense white light lines on the book, a strange look flickering in its silver eyes, and said calmly, “That’s true.”

“Then what are you afraid of?” Luo flipped his palm downward, and the book dissipated into white light spots in the air.

I’m afraid all the Nen I’ve accumulated will be wasted!

The black cat kept this concern to itself, its eyes rolling as it said seriously, “I can only swallow non-living entities. That bandage monster, though lacking Nen and resentment, can move freely. It must be some special life form.”

With that, it concluded, “So I can’t do it.”

“Oh.” Luo nodded.

The black cat was secretly delighted but heard Luo continue, “Just as I thought, the humanoid bandage is called Void; it’s a non-living entity.”

“Huh?” The black cat was dumbfounded.

“You’ve seen it; Void moves slowly. It should be easy to swallow in one bite,” Luo said, looking at the distant Void, which had resumed its original form and was now floating lightly towards them.

The black cat hesitated, saying, “Why don’t we just avoid it? This creepy thing is bad luck for anyone who touches it!”

“I also think it’s bad luck, but aren’t you here?” Luo said seriously.

The black cat’s face fell, saying angrily, “I have rights too!”

“Stop talking; it’s coming,” Luo said, his gaze fixed on the approaching Void.

There was too little information about Void, and it was so bizarre that sending the black cat to test it was the safest approach.

The black cat had no choice but to comply.

Suddenly, it transformed from the size of a house cat to the size of an elephant, resembling a leopard with many different details.

Now larger, the black cat charged at Void.

As Luo said, Void’s existence and abilities were unknown and strange, but from the surface, its movements were indeed slow, and its only demonstrated attack method was the highly concentrated toxic smoke.

There should be no risk.

The black cat comforted itself, and after crossing a hundred-meter distance, it leapt at Void, opening its mouth wide and swallowing it whole.

Just like a child who hates tomatoes, swallowing it whole without chewing.

Luo watched as the black cat swallowed Void and waited to see what would happen.

One second, two seconds, three seconds…

The black cat turned to look at Luo, standing far away, and seemed normal with nothing unusual.

“Are you okay?” Luo asked from a distance.

The black cat was about to reply when its expression suddenly changed, and its body inflated as if filled with a lot of air.

“Uh…”

A large plume of green smoke erupted from the black cat’s mouth, quickly engulfing its surroundings and swallowing the black cat within it.

Seeing this, Luo immediately retreated towards where Sanbica was.

“Seems like that method didn’t work either.”

He retreated while watching the rapidly spreading green smoke, his expression slightly grave.

Within the green smoke, there was no sound, leaving him unsure of the black cat’s condition.

It won’t die anyway.

Luo thought without concern as he left the clearing and reached Sanbica’s side.

“What was that thing?” Sanbica asked gravely.

“Void, a non-living entity from the Dark Continent,” Luo explained, watching the dense green smoke.

Sanbica’s eyes showed surprise, not at the origin of the thing but that Luo recognized the humanoid bandage’s origin.

Suddenly, the spreading green smoke was sucked in like a whale, forming a frenzied vortex and disappearing within moments.

In the clearing, only the black cat, back to its house cat size, and Void, restored to its original form, remained.

“Damn!”

The black cat cursed and started running.

Luo, too, turned and ran, dragging Sanbica along, leaving the black cat behind.

Because, besides the Void emerging from the black cat’s mouth, six more Voids floated out from the collapsed cave entrance.

One was already a headache, and now there were six more. If they didn’t run now, when would they?

So, Luo grabbed Sanbica and fled.

The black cat, seeing Luo shamelessly abandoning it, shouted angrily, “Wait for me!”

At the collapsed cave entrance, seven Voids silently watched Luo and Sanbica flee.

This was the invisible disaster; letting them move freely, who knows what impact they would have on the world.
