Chapter 554: I have very important matters to report to the priest of the great Moon Goddess!

At night, in front of the northern city gate of the capital of the Magic Kingdom, Ham was leading the musketeer squad on their routine patrol.

Although the kingdom has almost dominated the entire continent, many dissenters still lurk in the shadows, hoping to overthrow the rule of the wizards and return the world to a dark era where nobles and the church jointly enslaved the commoners.

Ham, once a lowly mine slave whose sole purpose was to toil away in the dark mines until he died in an accident, would never allow such a thing to happen. As a devout follower of the Moon Goddess, Ham once believed everything was predestined, that his suffering was a test from the great Goddess, and that the humiliations endured in life would turn into blessings after death.

However, the wizards proved to him that all this was false, a deception by the church, and that they didn't need to suffer to make the nobles happy, nor wait for death to enjoy peace and joy. They could live in a paradise on earth.

Having suffered in the past, Ham cherished his current life especially after becoming the city's guard commander, and he diligently performed his duties every day.

As Ham passed by the watchtower, he saw a few guards gathered together, gossiping. Frowning deeply, he rebuked them sternly.

"Get back to your posts now! Which captain was responsible for the patrol logs today? Where did he go?"

The chastised guards stuttered, unable to speak, until Ham questioned them harshly again. They then revealed that the captain had just sneaked off to drink with some friends.

Ham's face darkened with anger, and the lazy soldiers carefully tried to justify their actions.

"Lord Ham, it's almost time for the shift change, and the captain had just left a little while ago; it shouldn’t cause too much of an impact…"

Unlike the vigilant Ham, most of the capital's guards saw their daily duties as merely going through the motions, especially since the empire’s wars had ended and the capital boasted the strongest defense in the kingdom, even hosting several great wizards.

Even the crazed followers of the Moon Goddess wouldn’t dare target the capital—it would be akin to suicide.

"Do you even realize that the kingdom is still at war? Several council lords are leading our most elite troops in the north, battling demons from foreign lands. Now is not the time to slack off!" Ham scolded them as if he were berating iron not turning into steel.

Despite the north being far away, the council had tightened security in all major cities, increased patrols, and detailed checks on everyone entering and leaving the capital.

The protection levels indicated that even those in the rear were not completely safe. Unaware of the existence of portals, Ham assumed it was to prevent saboteurs from creating unrest.

After reprimanding the lazy guards, Ham was about to have someone fetch the truant captain to be punished when he unexpectedly saw a large group approaching the north gate.

"Master Garwen, why have you returned?" Ham recognized the great wizard immediately and greeted him eagerly.

"I have... very important matters... to report to the priest of the great Moon Goddess, let me through!" Garwen's speech sounded awkward, as if he was just learning to talk.

"Moon Goddess?" Ham gave Garwen a strange look, then exchanged a glance with the surprised guards, and said discreetly, "I might need to send someone to report this."

"No need, I'll go in myself." Garwen, noticing the subtle changes in the guards' expressions, spoke more assertively.

"Please wait a moment, master. The entire capital is under martial law; anyone entering or leaving must be logged and reported..." Ham tried to appease the great wizard while a guard quietly went to report the situation.

"I'll only say this once, let me through! This is very important information!" Garwen spoke with firm resolve, ready to cast a spell.

However, Ham was more decisive. Realizing that Garwen intended to force his way in, he shouted loudly.

"Enemy attack, attack them all!"

The guards were already prepared, as the other's claim was too preposterous.

Report work to the priest of the great Moon Goddess?

This made them wonder if the person disguised as Master Garwen was out of his mind.

Even the crazed church followers wouldn’t use such a poor disguise; this was clearly trouble-making!

The capital's guards, now equipped with new-style muskets that didn’t require loading ammunition before battle, raised their guns and fired directly!

However, the barrage of bullets stopped five centimeters from Garwen’s body and then flew back at even higher speed, piercing through the guards' armor. Screams of agony immediately filled the area in front of the city gate.

Fortunately, although the kingdom’s guards had grown somewhat complacent due to the recent peace, it had only been

less than a year since the war with the church, and they still demonstrated their quality. At Ham’s warning, a large patrol team quickly came to support.

Several wizards stationed there also communicated via electromagnetic waves, sending the news of the attack into the capital.

Cecil, lurking outside the capital, gave Walrock a cold look. If not for this foolish dragon devouring those people's souls, preventing him from accessing their memories, and forcing him to temporarily learn the local language through divine magic 【Language Comprehension】, he wouldn’t have been so easily detected.

"I have sensed it already; there are no powerful beings in this city. You're being too cautious, Cecil. This is just wasting our time..." Walrock let out an invigorating roar, then spread his wings and flew toward the magic capital, ready to slaughter the city as a sacrifice to summon the great Lord of the Dead!

By this point, Cecil had no more words. He immediately dispelled the concealment spells on a large number of undead and began slaughtering the nearest native city.

"Quick, stop them!" "Close the city gates, close them now!"

A series of urgent shouts rang throughout the capital, and with more and more support arriving, those like Garwen trying to break into the city were quickly killed by two great wizards.

"Damn, it's necromancy!" The great wizard Bird was incredibly angry.

He had initially thought someone was impersonating Garwen and others trying to infiltrate the city, only to discover someone had killed him and was using necromancy to control his body.

This meant there was a problem with the portal!

In the next moment, Great Wizard Bird realized his guess was correct, as a huge figure appeared in the sky above the capital—a hundred-meter-long skeletal dragon with a fearsome appearance, whose aura alone caused many cowardly guards to collapse in fear, unable to move.

【Winter Dragon】 Walrock opened his mouth wide, emitting a terrifying breath of ice that mixed ultra-low temperatures with vengeful spirits, capable of instantly freezing any living being and stealing their souls.

However, a magical barrier quickly rose in various parts of the capital, intercepting the icy breath.

As the most important region of the Magic Kingdom, the capital naturally had the highest level of protection.

Inside the central magic tower, Victorio and a dozen alchemy masters had set up an alchemical array that even legendary spells would struggle to break.

【Winter Dragon】 Walrock, in a fit of rage, swung his tail heavily against the protective barrier, causing ripples. Seeing this, Bird felt a pang of fear. If the protective magic array were damaged, they would be powerless to fight such a monster.

This couldn't go on; they had to use that!

Great Wizard Bird thought to himself; they still had a secret weapon that could threaten a legendary creature—the Solar Furnace hidden beneath the city in the magic tower!

As Bird was contemplating, three great wizards inside the magic tower had already begun the ascension ceremony's array.

This alchemical array could gather the continuous energy from the Solar Furnace, which, while intended for ascension, could also be used for attack!

With three great wizards working together to guide it, they could harness the power of fusion to cast a legendary spell—【Spear of Judgment】!

The raging 【Winter Dragon】 Walrock suddenly felt a sense of dread and immediately stopped its movements, but a massive beam of light had already shot up from the ground, piercing through its right wing.

Accompanied by a painful dragon roar, the huge dragon body immediately fell from the sky.

Cecil, who had not yet made a move, watched as the 【Winter Dragon】 Walrock crashed down, unsurprised. Exposing oneself carelessly without understanding the opponent was undoubtedly the most foolish act.

Taking advantage of the attention Walrock drew, Cecil quietly used the bodies of Garwen and others to cast a Corpse Explosion spell!

A dark green poison mist immediately burst from the hundreds of mutilated bodies, enveloping the dozen or so guards who were preparing to move the bodies…
