Chapter 218: Clearing the Field Before Battle

On average, twice a month, the Talmah Mountains experience thunderstorm weather, yet, only about two Misfortune Toads are produced each month. For these figures, over fifty people die monthly.

Most of these deaths are at the hands of the Misfortune Toads, with a few killed by their own kind.

Since the rain began, half an hour has passed, and the mating time for Misfortune Toads is within a minute; thereafter, the female toads retract back into the rocky mountains, while the male toads do not linger long—they scoop up some Happiness Mushrooms and then return.

This means, after half an hour, there’s no hope of catching any more toads; one must wait for the next thunderstorm.

However, the unlucky ones can directly plunder the fortunes of the lucky ones.

In the eyes of most unlucky children, Luo is seen as an exceptionally lucky person. Thus, when they see the Misfortune Toad in Luo's hands, many attempt to sneak attack him, only to suffer the consequences themselves.

Half an hour ago was the opportunity to search for Misfortune Toads; half an hour later, it is the time for those who got nothing to rob their peers of their prey, hence the rainy night begins to be stained with blood.

Those who harbored killing intent towards Luo all died by his counterattack, while those who left room for mercy were left by Luo to faint in the storm, only to wake up later inevitably ill.

Leaving behind many with ill intentions, Luo ascended to the mountain top, vaguely remembering the location of Geru, though he was not sure.

“This should be the place.”

The priceless toad Luo casually tossed aside at his feet, then glanced around at his surroundings. The only places to hide were those rocks.

“There's someone, but it can't be her.”

Luo felt the gaze of someone spying on him, clearly those who did not know how to hide.

He stood in the storm for about ten minutes, while those hiding around him, like patient hunters, made no move.

After waiting for a while, Luo felt it was about enough and expanded his domain, forming a thin aura membrane in a hemispherical shape with him at the center, covering a diameter of 100 meters.

The raindrops, which couldn’t approach Luo’s body before, now started falling on him, quickly soaking his clothes.

That was the use of En combined with the domain; any slight movement within the range was under Luo’s control, making it impossible to hide even with perfect concealment.

When Luo deployed his detection domain, Biscuit immediately retreated quietly; she knew Luo’s En was unavoidable, akin to a radar without blind spots.

Those hidden in the dark did not realize this; they remained motionless, including Geru who had just returned to the spot.

“It's the person who was sleeping at the bottom of the valley just now; must have some connection to Biscuit, but why is he here?” Geru saw Luo deploy his En and then concealed her aura, observing Luo.

She hadn’t found any Misfortune Toads nor encountered anyone who had, but as she wandered nearby, she incidentally saw many people lying on the ground, deducing that someone must have gotten a toad, hence the conflict.

Thus, she followed the trail of bodies back to the mountain top she had been before, then saw Luo standing there with a dead Misfortune Toad.

It was strange that having caught a Misfortune Toad, he didn't descend the mountain but instead climbed to the top, coincidentally at the same spot she had been earlier.

Elsewhere, Biscuit quietly watched the situation from a hidden spot, considering everyone else besides Geru as insignificant, unable to even hide properly.

“Things are going smoothly, so I don't need to interfere.”

Biscuit became the only onlooker enjoying the scene, originally thinking it would take some effort, but Luo’s luck in finding the Misfortune Toad made it easier.

Only the Misfortune Toad, a critical element, could provide a reason for a conflict.

Luo knew what Biscuit wanted him to do, which is why he boldly attracted attention everywhere, just to find Geru.

If Luo couldn’t find Geru, Biscuit would have found a way to bring her to him, but now that things were proceeding naturally, there was no need for trouble.

After deploying his domain, Luo moved forward, the aura membrane shifting as he walked.

“Seven people, not strong.”

As he moved slowly, Luo quickly pinpointed the positions of seven hidden individuals, though their strength seemed lacking.

He then casually threw the Misfortune Toad’s corpse behind him, appearing to wander aimlessly, but in fact, he was checking if his target was present.

“Found you…”

Suddenly, Luo stopped, retracted his domain after a while, then turned and walked towards the toad’s corpse

.

Behind a rock, Geru’s body stiffened; when Luo’s En swept over and included her, she, being highly sensitive to touch, felt as if a pair of hands briskly caressed her.

The sensation was very faint, like a breeze too weak to even sway hair; if she weren’t particularly sensitive, she might not have noticed anything odd.

“I’ve used Zetsu to conceal my aura and adjusted my breathing to the lowest frequency, but… I was discovered,” Geru’s eyes twinkled, aware she had been spotted.

This judgment could be seen as her sixth sense or her experience; regardless of the basis, she made a definite decision in that moment.

Luo returned to the vicinity of the toad’s corpse, paused, then walked towards a house-sized rock.

He extended his hand, focusing his aura into his fist, and as a bolt of lightning crossed the sky, he threw a punch at the rock.

Boom!

The house-sized rock instantly shattered into dozens of pieces, flying several meters away.

After shattering the rock, Luo returned to the toad’s corpse.

The seven ordinary people hiding in the shadows, seeing the power of Luo’s punch, were frightened and swiftly left the place of conflict.

They were qualified hunters, very patient, but ultimately just ordinary people; when faced with great power, they knew how to choose.

Luo’s punch revealed much information to them.

They were discovered, and that punch was Luo’s warning to them, prompting their decisive retreat.

Using brute force to scare off the common folk, but the noise of the shattered rock would attract more people, though that was a matter for later.

Seeing Luo’s actions, Biscuit shook her head slightly; scaring off the bothersome people was crude but effective.

Geru frowned slightly, increasingly finding Luo peculiar; that punch seemed like he was clearing the field, suggesting it was… targeted at her?

“I don’t know him.”

Geru silently thought, feeling that Luo was targeting her.

“This toad, do you want it?”

Suddenly, Luo looked towards Geru’s position, his voice carrying through the wind and rain, reaching her ears.

Geru stepped out from behind the rock, looking at Luo in the distance with an expressionless face.
