Chapter 217: Jackpot!

Halfway up the mountain path lay oddly shaped rocks, among which two bloated toads the size of millstones were squatting on one of the rocks.

The surrounding storm raged, and lightning tore through the sky, but it did not affect the ** within the two toads.

The sound of the wind and rain and the thunder were nothing more than background music for them.

Luo had just arrived here at the moment the male toad took up arms. A sudden bolt of lightning that sliced through the sky behind the two toads made for a striking backdrop.

Luo, recalling the task Bisky had given him, did not immediately strike at the Misfortune toads, feeling that it wasn't quite right to do so just yet and decided to wait until their merry-making was over.

As it happened, he stumbled upon these Misfortune toads, and they were in the midst of mating, no different from hitting the jackpot in a lottery. Had it been someone else, they wouldn't have hesitated to strike at the unlucky toads.

Because of the rarity of Misfortune toads, the locals wouldn't strike at mating Misfortune toads either. They would wait for the male toad to release its life force, let the female go, and then try to capture the male.

Luo patiently waited on the side. Ten seconds later, with a shudder of the male toad's body, the sound of the storm continued, but the air suddenly fell silent.

A moment later, the female toad leapt forward and without looking back, darted towards a hole that had emerged from the rocks.

The male toad continued to squat on the rock, motionless, as if contemplating life or savoring the recent happiness.

"Is it over?"

Luo scratched his cheek, thinking it was indeed quick.

He paused for a moment and then walked towards the male toad on the rock. Countless large raindrops fell on his body, blocked by an invisible shield that kept them from reaching him.

The male toad seemed unaware of Luo's presence. It suddenly moved, pulling out a mushroom from somewhere and began eating it while squatting there.

Seeing this, Luo felt a sense of after-smoke relaxation and found it quite amusing.

As Luo approached within five meters, the toad eating the mushroom suddenly kicked up, launching itself into the air towards Luo. Its sharp claws, threaded with deep blue fibers, were raised high, shattering the large raindrops.

"Pretty sneaky."

Luo smiled slightly and sidestepped the lunging Misfortune toad.

As they passed by each other, he clenched his right fist and flicked his thumb towards the toad, sending an egg-sized Nen orb shooting out from the tip of his thumb, burying itself into the back of the Misfortune toad's head.

Pfft!

The Nen orb pierced through the Misfortune toad's brain, causing the creature's body to shudder and immediately fall to the ground, lifeless. Blood flowed from the hole in its head, quickly washed away by the rain.

Luo walked over to the body of the Misfortune toad and picked it up.

If people gathered around the Talmah Mountains saw this, they would feel it was a pity, as a live Misfortune toad was more valuable.

Luo didn't recognize this toad, but White Smoke font did. Upon touching the toad, related information instantly filled his head.

After reading about the Misfortune toad, Luo's expression became slightly strange.

This was a toad filled with deadly poison, its mole-like claws covered with dense poison glands. A slight scratch would result in a painful, poisoned death. Moreover, the poison in a toad that had just mated contained an added aphrodisiac component.

Carrying deadly poison all over, it was inedible, and even dead, one must be careful, especially now, as being poisoned would not only lead to death but an agonizing one at that.

Luo carried the toad's body and walked towards the rock.

Illuminated by the continuously flashing lightning, several fist-sized mushrooms with deep blue coin-like spots similar to those on the Misfortune toad's body were visible on the side of the rock.

The mushroom the Misfortune toad had been eating was of this type. Luo casually picked one, a look of surprise flashing in his eyes. This was a deadly poisonous mushroom that could cause hallucinations in the tongue. After eating it, one's body would stiffen like stone, and death would follow half an hour later.

However, the poison was not the culprit causing hallucinations in the tongue.

Luo played with the mushroom for a moment before casually tossing it aside.

"Should I carry this toad in front of that woman for a stroll?"

Luo glanced at the dead Misfortune toad. Bisky's plan was for him to cause trouble, but getting the toad seemed too simple; it seemed there was no need for trouble.

Just as he thought this, a flash of lightning briefly lit up the sky, and six arrows tore through the rain, heading towards him with considerable force.

Luo's expression changed slightly as he stared at the incoming arrows. The rain and wind did nothing to sway them, indicating their significant power.

Facing this sneak attack, Luo simply stood his ground, stopping the arrows right in front of him as his gaze grew colder.

The not well-hidden murderous intent allowed him to detect the arrows immediately, and the person who shot them clearly intended to take his life.

"Is it for this toad?"

Luo reached out, grabbing the arrows suspended in mid-air one by one, activated his ability, and crushed them into powder. He then continued towards the source of the arrows, still carrying the toad.

Suddenly, another bolt of lightning illuminated the earth, and moments later, six more arrows broke through the air.

Luo easily stopped the arrows again and set them down on the ground, continuing forward.

After walking a few dozen meters, he stopped. In the dimness ahead, through the curtain of rain, six figures appeared, barely visible.

Boom!

As lightning flashed and vanished, Luo saw the true faces of the six men. They were not Nen users, but they were strong-bodied, as evident from the force behind their arrows; all were skilled hunters.

At that moment, the six men in raincoats advanced towards Luo. They had attacked him when lightning split the sky, and when darkness fell, they could only wait for the next flash of lightning to see if Luo had died from their arrows.

In this alternating light and dark, after two rounds, seeing Luo unharmed and approaching them, they cursed the weather and chose to attack.

In the silence that followed, the six men charged through the rain curtain towards Luo.

Their plan was to kill Luo and then steal the Misfortune toad.

The entire process to the result, they probably didn't care about Luo's life.

Watching these desperadoes rushing towards him, Luo's gaze turned icy. He extracted the poison from the Misfortune toad's body and flicked his fingers, shooting marble-sized poison pellets at the six men.

"Uh?"

The moment the poison entered their bodies, the six men shuddered in their sprint, their pace gradually slowed, and their expressions suddenly twisted in ferocity.

Luo no longer paid attention to the six men. He thought about Geru's location and immediately headed in that direction.

The men poisoned by the toad's toxins stood frozen in place, emitting strange, gurgling sounds. Their faces turned hideously red with blood, their eyes filled with blood vessels, staining their sockets red.

Moments later, the men fell to the ground, not dying immediately but enduring the agonizing pain as if burned by lustful fire.

The number of Misfortune toads appearing in thunderstorms was not large, and Luo had hit the jackpot to get one. Because he was unaware of its value, he had killed it easily.

At that time, about five hundred people were gathered on the mountain, all for the Misfortune toad, like the six reckless men who wanted to kill for it, yet ended up being ** instead.

Elsewhere, Geru had expanded her search area.

She was not lucky enough to encounter an Misfortune toad, and the same was true for those around her.

What Geru didn't know was that a lucky person who had caught an Misfortune toad was now actively heading towards her.
