Chapter 302

Since it was the weekend the next day, Chen Yue had no plans to return to school. Her residence was not far from the city center, and she got there in just over ten minutes by catching a ride with a classmate.

"Yue Yue, do you want me to take you upstairs?" asked the male classmate driving as he leaned out of the window.

Without a second thought, Chen Yue refused, "No, you better hurry back. Wang Na is drunk, and you’ll have your hands full with her soon. I just need to cross this alley, and I’ll be home. Bye."

"Be safe then."

Watching the car slowly drive away, Chen Yue hesitated for a second but quickly regained her good mood and briskly walked towards her neighborhood. Today, under her influence, Cang Yu did not bring out the gift, so he was not recognized by Chu Lingyang, and the male lead did not become suspicious of Cang Yu's identity. Moreover, Cang Yu had even initiated several conversations with her during dinner! Everything was moving in a positive direction.

Lost in her thoughts, Chen Yue was completely unaware of the danger as she entered the alley.

The alley was flanked by residential buildings over twenty years old, with plenty of domestic garbage piled up, making it somewhat crowded. However, the neighborhood was still relatively safe, and the street lamps, albeit dim, provided just enough light to see the ground. Humming a tuneless melody, Chen Yue planned to quickly pass through the alley.

A few minutes later, Chen Yue suddenly stopped and stared at a corner trash bin with a dirty doll on its blue lid. She remembered this trash bin was placed at the entrance of the alley, ten meters away...

Had she encountered a ghost wall? What to do? She didn’t have any Taoist skills, and the male lead wasn’t there either. Chen Yue regretted not asking her classmate to take a detour to the front of her neighborhood. After taking a deep breath, she pinched her fingers to wake herself up and pulled out her phone from her bag.

Chu Lingyang was hiding his presence on a rooftop, looking down at the figures below, his eyes twinkling with a teasing light before he leapt down.

At that moment, Ling Chunann was standing on another nearby high building. His vision was excellent, allowing him to clearly see Lingyang's expressions and actions. This task player was very different from the one in the other world, who liked to play the long game and strategize before acting. This one preferred a quick and decisive kill.

"Host, Chu Lingyang has made his move," reported 098. 098 didn’t ask why Ling Chunann didn’t intervene to stop Chu Lingyang; having been together for a long time, it knew Ling Chunann had his own decisions and kept its comments to itself.

Then Ling Chunann's phone rang. The caller ID showed it was Chen Yue.

Ling Chunann pressed the answer button, "Hello?"

There was no response from the other end. Chen Yue was currently leaning against the wall, pale-faced, with her phone having fallen to the ground. A gun was pressed against her temple. "What, what do you want to do?"

Seeing Chen Yue's reaction, Chu Lingyang frowned deeply, "Stop pretending, Miss He, did you think I would be fooled twice?"

"I don't know what you’re talking about. My last name is Chen, not He," Chen Yue steadied herself while gripping a small knife in her hand. "You’ve mistaken me for someone else."

"Heh. The same trick won’t work on me anymore." Chu Lingyang scoffed, "Goodbye." Saying this, he pulled the trigger.

The silenced gun made a muffled sound, but surprisingly, at that moment, Chen Yue vanished from under the muzzle, and when she reappeared, her small knife stabbed into Chu Lingyang's abdomen.

Seeing blood for the first time, Chen Yue panicked and, without daring to scream loudly, quickly ran towards the end of the alley.

Hearing their conversation, Ling Chunann asked, "098, can task players encounter each other in multiple worlds?"

"Back to host, task worlds are usually assigned randomly, but there are rare instances where task players meet," 098 explained. Clearly, this task player had mistaken Chen Yue for a past encounter. 098 had heard of top-tier task players playing transmigrators before, so it wasn't very strange.

Ling Chunann nodded and jumped down from the building, landing in front of Chu Lingyang.

Chen Yue's knife was small and, while it injured Chu Lingyang, it was not fatal. With healing potions available, task players were notoriously resilient.

Chu Lingyang didn’t know how Chen Yue managed to move in that instant, but from her attack method, he could tell she was not a task player; otherwise, he wouldn't be alive.

Pulling out the knife, Chu Lingyang leaned

against the wall, preparing to exchange for a healing item, when suddenly a pair of legs appeared before him. He looked up, seeing the last person he wanted to encounter there. Thinking back to the call Chen Yue had made just moments ago, Chu Lingyang's face grew even uglier. His current condition was definitely not good enough to face a zombie king.

Smelling the rich spiritual energy in the blood in the air, Ling Chunann felt a bit hungry. "Mr. Chu, how did you get injured? Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I just accidentally ran into a robbery and got stabbed. Could you help me make an emergency call?" Chu Lingyang's voice was weak, but his body tensed up.

No, Chu Lingyang's mind raced. It had been less than two minutes since Chen Yue made that call. Even if Cang Yu was a zombie king, according to the plot, he should be at his weakest now and would need at least five minutes to track Chen Yue's aura and come over.

This person had arrived too quickly.

Considering the information he had gathered earlier, almost all of it related to Chen Yue's anomalies, with very little about this zombie king as per the plot, Chu Lingyang broke into a sweat. By now, he understood that he had obviously fallen into an enemy's trap.

Almost instantly, Chu Lingyang made a decision and raised his gun.

Ling Chunann hadn’t dialed yet when several muffled sounds rang out near his ear—it was the sound of a silenced gun firing.

Chu Lingyang was determined to put Ling Chunann to death, firing six bullets that surrounded him, and no matter where he dodged, he would be hit in a vital spot.

"Host, be careful, his gun is a system-exchanged weapon that can injure the soul. Being hit by two bullets could cause the soul to scatter," 098 quickly warned, a bit annoyed that it only analyzed the gun's origin after the bullets were fired.

The bullets were fast, but Ling Chunann was faster. He wasn’t the fasting-prohibited weak zombie king from the original text; Han Fenglian's blood was definitely the best energy source, and with his conscious cultivation, his power now surpassed the strongest point of the original zombie king.

Ling Chunann didn’t dodge; as the bullets flew towards him, seven small flying knives also shot out from his hands.

The sound of dinging was heard as six of the flying knives collided with the bullets in mid-air, falling together onto the dirty ground, while the last knife, to Chu Lingyang’s disbelief, buried into his forehead.

"Congratulations, host, for killing a task player. The reward will be issued after the mission is successful," 098 sounded a bit dazed; the task player had been killed so easily? It then excitedly continued, "Host, you're really amazing!"

"Lucky," said Ling Chunann. If the task player hadn’t been so arrogant and careless, he wouldn’t have lost his life so easily.

Host is too modest! 098 felt delighted inside.

After cleaning up the traces around them and destroying Chu Lingyang's body beyond recognition, Ling Chunann picked up Chen Yue's dropped phone and swiftly disappeared into the alley. Come morning, no one would know what had happened here.

A week later, Han Fenglian received a call.

"Host, someone from the Chu family is here, saying they have an urgent matter to discuss with you," 098 reported quietly after eavesdropping on the phone call. "Could the Chu family have discovered that you killed Chu Lingyang?"

"If they had, they would’ve come directly to me," Ling Chunann answered, "Don’t be so jumpy."

"Yes, host," 098 quickly acknowledged its mistake.

Soon, Han Fenglian returned to his room. "Baby, I have to go to the Chu family in Nancheng for about a week. Would you like to come with me?"

"Of course." The plot where Xia Lingyan died was still two months away, and the story had already been disrupted by Chu Lingyang's sudden disappearance. Ling Chunann leaving for a while wouldn’t affect anything.

Hearing Ling Chunann's definite answer, Han Fenglian was pleased. "Then we’ll leave tomorrow. Baby, would you prefer to drive or fly?"

"I like taking the train," Ling Chunann replied.

Han Fenglian was taken aback by Ling Chunann's response, but then said, "Alright, I'll go buy the train tickets."

Seeing the man change his expression, Ling Chunann laughed, "Haha, let’s just drive there; it's more convenient."

The drive from Beicheng to Nancheng took nearly eight hours. Han Fenglian didn't call a driver; instead, he took the driver's seat himself. "This trip is probably about their heir's disappearance. Many exorcists have received invitations these past few days. The Chu family is a prominent family of exorcists,

so baby, make sure to stay close to me when we get there."

"Okay," Ling Chunann obediently nodded.

While they waited at a red light, Han Fenglian reached over and ruffled Ling Chunann's hair. "Baby, you did well. They won’t find anything."

Task players themselves relied on soul energy to sustain themselves, so when a task player died, their soul automatically dissipated. Ling Chunann used a system-produced professional corpse powder, which made it impossible for anyone to discover—except for Han Fenglian.

Ling Chunann didn’t tell Han Fenglian that he had killed the task player that day, but obviously, he already knew.

However, Ling Chunann wasn’t worried that Han Fenglian would talk, as his next words showed.

Han Fenglian said, "But baby, if you need to deal with someone in the future, just tell me. I know many ways to handle it, and if baby gets tired, I'll feel bad."

Ling Chunann smiled broadly. "Mr. Han is the best!"

098: "......"
