Chapter 140: The Regret

Deviation from the norm can often unveil treasures previously obscured.

It may sound exaggerated, but to the culinary world of the Hunter's universe, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup holds the status of a treasure, its uniqueness unprecedented.

This treasure was introduced by someone not of this world.

Feitan, unaware of what he missed, left Uvogin's house with a disgruntled demeanor, regretting not bringing his sword to test Luo's abilities.

After Feitan's departure, the atmosphere in the house cleared of its discord, as spear and shield parted ways.

In less than an hour after their reunion, Chrollo and others noticed significant changes in Luo, absent for months.

Machi and Uvogin refrained from pressing Luo to join the Phantom Troupe, reaching an unspoken consensus.

Should Luo decline joining them, they were prepared for a relentless battle to meet the conditions he set.

During the wait for the dish, Luo, bombarded with questions by Machi and others, shared his experiences over the past months.

When the conversation led to gambles and boat journeys, Luo casually presented a necklace made from a purple pearl, gifting it to Machi in front of everyone.

The gift wasn't intentional or a declaration of affection. While Luo had a fondness for Machi, remembering her future self, his feelings were more protective than romantic, especially since the current Machi was under fourteen.

The necklace, though roughly crafted, drew everyone's attention except for Sanbica, who knew of the pearls.

Pearls, a rarity in Meteor Street, fascinated them, not for their beauty but for their value, contrasting with their usual preference for meat over jewels.

Uvogin, for instance, wondered how much meat the necklace could be traded for.

Machi accepted the necklace without embarrassment, bluntly inquiring about its monetary value.

Luo, reminded of when Machi took a jade necklace without knowing its worth, responded seriously, aware that she valued the potential exchange for money.

Uvogin and Nobunaga, seeing the valuable gift, demanded their share.

Luo, surprised, questioned their interest in pearls.

Uvogin hoped to trade a pearl for food, while Nobunaga desired a quality knife.

Chrollo and Pakunoda shook their heads at their straightforward desires.

Faced with Uvogin and Nobunaga's anticipation, Luo relented, fishing out two pearls from his pocket, much smaller than the one given to Machi, and handed them over.

The gesture led to a playful scuffle, with Uvogin restraining Luo while Nobunaga searched him, prompting Luo to call for Machi's help, though she ignored him.

Luo, resigned, hinted at Sanbica to proceed with her intention, receiving no response from her or the amused onlookers.

Despite being physically overpowered, Luo refrained from using his aura, accepting his situation with a smirk.

Nobunaga, finding only a black card and minor pearls, reluctantly ceased his search, criticizing Luo for favoritism.

An hour later, the Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup was ready.

Luo, entering the kitchen, presented the dish, sparking anticipation among those unfamiliar with his cooking, including Franklin.

Before unveiling the dish, Luo allocated servings, teasing Uvogin and Nobunaga with smaller portions for their earlier behavior.

The aroma and the blend of ingredients captivated everyone, marking a memorable experience, especially for those tasting such high-grade ingredients for the first time.

As they began eating, the room fell silent, save for the sounds of enjoyment.

Luo watched, reminiscing the familiar scene, feeling a sense of fulfillment.

Uvogin and Nobunaga, finishing their portions quickly, eagerly served themselves more, despite Luo's initial judgment.

The meal, turning from a gathering to a competition for food, left no leftovers.

Uvogin lamented Feitan's absence, missing out on a remarkable experience.

The true regret lay in the unawareness of what was missed, understood only by those who partook.

Even Chrollo shared this sentiment, recognizing the novelty of the experience for those from Meteor Street, akin to the untainted palate of a newborn.

This marked the debut of Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup, a first for them all.
