Chapter 130: Unknown Species

Dust hung in the air, lingering for a long time.

Luo, following the long arm of the violent bear, stepped onto the bulging flesh of its palm.

Standing on it, he could feel the resilient elasticity beneath the thick, calloused skin, despite its hardened exterior.

It was a mystery how the bear could deliver such destructive force with its elastic palms.

Luo crouched down, his hand caressing the thick callus, and then used his ability to cut out a square piece of the bear's paw.

The bear's paw, unlike those of Earth's bears, was a semi-translucent yellow flesh block under the hard callus, filled with pleasing patterns.

Pressing it, it immediately bounced back like jelly, yet it was tough enough not to feel like fat but more like a piece of meat. Moreover, it emitted a faint coconut fragrance, free of any fishy or foul odor.

If lit by a lamp, it might even shimmer, resembling a magical ingredient straight out of a fantasy.

Luo swallowed, always seeing Buhara salivate, thinking poorly of him, only to realize he was no different when faced with such enticing food.

Holding the block of bear's paw, he jumped down from the bear's palm and took several steps before turning back to look at the small-mountain-like corpse of the violent bear, thinking if Buhara were here, such wastage wouldn't happen.

The bear was twelve meters tall; brought to a small village, it would suffice for several days' meals.

Luo took only a piece of the bear's paw, unable to carry more, though he considered staying for a few days to consume as much as possible, that was but a fleeting thought.

This was the central part of the Amarlo Jungle, where rare beasts could emerge at any moment. If not for the residual intimidation from the bear's roar, many more would likely be attracted by the scent of blood.

If his presence could deter the beasts acting on instinct, Luo would have stayed.

Regrettably, his current aura wasn't enough to achieve that; staying would only invite endless harassment from the approaching beasts.

A few days was impossible, but a day was feasible, especially for B-grade ingredients, to not waste them.

"I remember an old man's shadow beast unit had a guy with sunglasses, whose Nen was a red cloth that could wrap things up and shrink them to the size of a candy, taking this bear away would be no issue."

"Then there's the hunter called Knov, whose Nen can manifest a dimensional space, essentially a massive storage space to carry around."

Looking at the corpse of the violent bear, Luo felt a need for such Nen abilities.

"You actually killed this monster!"

At that moment, a woman in a safety helmet ran up behind Luo, eyes wide as she looked at the small-mountain-like corpse of the violent bear, unable to hide her amazement.

"Why are you still here?"

Luo turned to look at the woman in the safety helmet, somewhat helpless, thinking she had quite the nerve to stay.

"I was thinking of waiting for you to... cough cough."

The woman in the safety helmet stopped mid-sentence, pretending to cough, then said, "I was worried about you."

"Thanks for your concern, then." Luo's eyelids twitched, the hastily altered statement revealing her true thoughts almost completely.

"How did you kill this monster?" the woman asked, glancing frequently at the corpse of the violent bear. Most of their companions had been bitten in half by this monster and then swallowed whole, a truly terrifying creature.

Luo was about to dismiss the question casually when suddenly, a chill rose from his spine, and his eyelids abruptly lifted.

"Boom!"

Behind them, the lake exploded as if several bombs had been dropped, and tentacles, thicker than the violent bear's arms, burst out of the water splashes, coiling around the corpse of the violent bear like snakes.

"Whoosh!"

Water fell from the sky, turning into a torrential downpour, pelting down on the woman and Luo.

The woman, looking up, opened her mouth wide in shock at the giant tentacles emerging from the lake.

Luo, with his back to the lake, was unaware of what had happened. At the sound, he grabbed the bear's paw with one hand and the dumbfounded woman with the other, running towards the forest at top speed.

Waves churned in the lake, rushing towards the shore.

After the tentacles wrapped around the violent bear, they lifted it high into the air, transporting it over the lake.

After running a distance with the woman, Luo turned to look at the lake, witnessing this astonishing scene, his face turning pale as coldness clung to his heart and spread throughout his body.

The tentacles tightly bound the corpse of the violent bear, suspending it above the lake, as large quantities of fresh blood flowed from the bear, apparently due to sharp structures on the tentacles that pierced through the bear's skin.

"Squid? Octopus?" Luo murmured softly, whether it was a squid or an octopus, the tentacles were thicker than the bear's arms, indicating a size far beyond imagination.

There was no record of such a creature in the data he had accessed!

The large amount of blood pouring from the bear's body stained a vast area of the lake red, while the tentacles remained motionless, allowing Luo to clearly see the thick moss on their surfaces.

Just as Luo thought it prudent to leave quickly, the tentacles suddenly moved, snapping like tense springs, and without warning, dragged the bear's corpse into the lake.

The massive body hit the lake surface, creating waves several meters high that crashed toward the shore, before disappearing along with the tentacles.

"Gone..."

Luo stared blankly at the gradually calming bloody lake, his heart pounding uncontrollably.

The woman in the safety helmet was already terrified. The violent bear was frightening enough, but the tentacles that emerged from the lake could lift such a massive bear.

After the blood-stained lake surface completely calmed down, it didn't take long for the water to change from red back to light green, as if some unknown entity had sucked up all the blood mixed in the water.

Seeing this, Luo hesitated no longer and pulled the safety helmet woman into the dense forest.

At this moment, Luo was filled with retrospective fear, grateful that the tentacles had appeared later. If they had been caught, even ten lives wouldn't suffice.

"What exactly is that species, and why is there no information on it?"

Walking into the dense forest with the woman, Luo's heartbeat gradually calmed down, but the image of the tentacles lifting the violent bear into the air kept circling in his mind.

"I've never heard of such a monster in Golden Lake," the woman with the safety helmet finally regained her senses, her voice trembling as she spoke.

Luo glanced at her without saying anything, and found a suitable place to stop.

The battle with the violent bear had drained a considerable amount of his strength and aura; he needed to rest for a while before starting his journey back to Amarlo village.

A campfire was lit, its light reflecting on Luo, bringing a bit of warmth.

Both Luo and the woman in the safety helmet were soaked from the lake water.

Sitting by the fire, Luo asked the woman a few questions, learning her name was Sasha, and she had come to the Amarlo Jungle in search of the City of Gold.

He was quite interested in the legend of the City of Gold, but such tales seemed more like catching at straws, hard to ensure their reality.

"Truly fearless," Luo thought to himself after knowing Sasha's purpose, then pondered over the unknown creature beneath the lake.

Sasha, still not out of the shadow of the lake monster, shivered from time to time, feeling chilled whenever she recalled the scene.

"How can I let this scare defeat me!"

Sasha took a deep breath to calm her unsettled heart, then took off her jacket, revealing a thin, white short-sleeved shirt that outlined her full chest, with her bra slightly visible.

She aimed to dry her clothes quickly to avoid catching a cold.

Luo, preoccupied with thoughts of the monster under the lake, didn't notice Sasha's action of taking off her clothes.

When he finally did, Sasha was only wearing a white bra on her upper body and was about to take off her trousers.
