Chapter 3: The White Smoke Text

The night was as cool as water, and in a room no larger than thirty square meters, furnished simply with a wooden bed, a cabinet, a table, two chairs, a hanging lamp, and a bathroom, lay the entirety of Machi's living space.

Luo Lie tossed and turned on the wooden bed, unable to sleep, whereas Machi, lying on a hammock, had already entered a state of steady sleep.

The hammock was already there when he first came to the room, and the wooden bed was covered in dust, indicating that Machi had long since stopped using the wooden bed.

"The world of Hunters..."

Lying on his side, Luo Lie fiddled with the cold jade stone, unsure whether to feel fear or excitement.

Machi was only ten years old, but her purple hair and golden eyes matched the image in his memory perfectly. It was the combination of the name, the image, and the term "Meteor Street" that made Luo Lie confirm his current situation.

Despite Machi's psychological age certainly being older than ten, she was still just a child, not a qualified teacher. Even with the aid of books, she couldn't systematically teach Luo Lie the common language. However, Luo Lie learned quickly, picking up many nouns in half a day, including their names and the term "Meteor Street."

Thanks to finally having the basics for communication, Luo Lie could promise Machi a huge sum of money in the future through drawing a big picture, which allowed him to get the jade stone back.

Hearing the big picture drawn by Luo Lie, Machi readily returned the jade stone to him.

Luo Lie didn’t think too much about it, simply assuming that this girl, who would be a member of the Phantom Troupe in the future, was still just a child who hadn’t experienced much, so she easily believed him.

In fact, most of Machi's decisions were based on intuition, which was also the fundamental reason she took Luo Lie home. Moreover, Luo Lie's ability to breathe freely in the 'toxic gas' environment of the garbage dump without a protective suit was another reason.

In terms of strength, Luo Lie was even weaker than herself, but Machi trusted her intuition. She believed that bringing Luo Lie back would be a good thing. As for the jade stone, she considered it a pretty rock, and getting Luo Lie's promise was already a win for her.

"I always imagined being in the world of Hunters would be blissful, so why can't I feel happy about it now?"

Luo Lie sighed inwardly, still unclear about the unidentified strong presence he encountered at the bottom of the Unfrozen Lake and how he inexplicably arrived in this world.

While on Earth, he always felt short on time and rarely watched anime, let alone manga.

Due to interest, the only anime he cared about were two series: Hunter x Hunter and Toriko.

As a foodie and gourmet, he liked Toriko. As an adventurer with a strong curiosity for the unknown, he liked Hunter x Hunter.

If he remembered correctly, among the classifications of Hunter professions, there was a Gourmet Hunter. Although he didn't know if the ingredients in this world were as rich as those in the world of Toriko, the existence of Gourmet Hunters meant that, compared to Earth, it was definitely worlds apart.

This was the source of Luo Lie's excitement, even overshadowing the unease and fear of arriving in a strange world.

Not to mention the various rare ingredients that didn't exist on Earth, and the unexplored mysteries not depicted in the anime, all of which held a fatal attraction for Luo Lie.

Rare beasts, magical beasts.

Treasures, secret treasures.

Mystical lands, magical realms.

These fantastical things, only existing in imagination, were like a blank scroll unfolding before him, waiting for him to paint vigorously.

Thinking this, Luo Lie's mood gradually calmed down. On Earth, he had dreamed of stepping foot in the ten forbidden places for humans. After a miraculous encounter that granted him power, he turned it into a goal.

Ordinary people might easily be controlled by desires upon suddenly gaining great power, but Luo Lie saw this power as a drive to explore unknown lands and seek out rare ingredients.

He was an adventurer with a spirit of exploration and a pure foodie, pursuing not only exquisite culinary skills but also the rarest ingredients seldom seen on dining tables.

Because of his unique experiences and goals, Luo Lie easily accepted his current situation after thinking things through.

Though his wanderings on Earth had just begun, he inexplicably arrived in the world of Hunter x Hunter, but the unknowns here far surpassed those on Earth.

"It's good, but the dangers here far exceed those of Earth. Luckily, I somewhat remember the principles of Nen and the methods of cultivation."

Luo Lie slowly closed his eyes, now only wanting to quickly master power, which was fundamental to surviving in the world of Hunters.

In

the quiet night, unable to sleep, he began to ponder Nen abilities, momentarily forgetting the weak life force within him.

Knowing this was the world of Hunter x Hunter, he thought of the diverse and strange Nen abilities. He didn't know to which category he belonged or what his ability was.

As soon as the thought arose, the smoky text appeared in his consciousness again, the same text that had appeared during the day's cultivation.

This time, Luo Lie wasn't surprised but calmly accepted the appearance of the text.

It wasn't just because he had experienced it once before but because he thought nothing could be stranger than finding himself in the world of Hunter x Hunter.

Level: Ordinary person.

Power: Nen ability.

Category: Unknown.

Awakening level: 0.5%

"It's changed."

Seeing the white smoke text appear again, Luo Lie was slightly surprised. Although it was just a fleeting glance during the day, he clearly remembered that the text did not have a level, the power showed as unknown, and the term "category" was not present.

"Could it be because my knowledge now includes Nen abilities?"

Luo Lie thought, adding the category to his understanding of Nen abilities.

As soon as the thought occurred, the smoky text changed again.

Level: Ordinary person

Power: Nen ability.

Enhancement: Awakening level 0%.

Emission: Awakening level 0%.

Transformation: Awakening level 0%.

Manipulation: Awakening level 0%.

Conjuration: Awakening level 0%.

Specialization: Awakening level 0.5%.

Seeing this smoky text, Luo Lie was delighted, although he didn't understand the fundamental principle behind this phenomenon, he assumed it to be a good sign.

"Only the Specialization category has an awakening level of 0.5%, does that mean I'm a Specialist?"

Luo Lie thought silently, his mind now focused solely on how to improve his Nen cultivation.

He remembered a swamp filled with dangers during the Hunter Exam, where physical strength alone couldn't avoid danger; only Nen abilities were fundamentally powerful.

"Although I don't know what this text is, the display of awakening level can provide me with a clear target. What I need to do is to diligently cultivate and increase the awakening level!"

Luo Lie murmured to himself, his resolve to cultivate firm. At that moment, he suddenly felt the jade stone in his palm emitting an astonishing heat, enough to instantly melt his hand!
