SOS Bros React - HunterxHunter Episode 110 - I'm On The Trail Of Something

Why do I get the feeling this wolf character is the equivalent of a butterfly that just might topple a house? But enough of that! The invasion is now(?) happening!! What did you think of the episode? Im still not sure how they will react when the narrator nuts all over our faces. Some like it, some dont... I hope they do

Kyle Green

I'm worried about that, I admit XD. I happen to think about 70% of the narration is actually necessary - but it is a lot of narration. Thankfully it calms down after a few episodes.

Burni

the wolf said half day left...

Garikai

This is interesting for me since I watched HxH before I talked to anyone who'd seen it. I kinda loved the narration. So when I found out a lot of people hated it I was shook aha. To each their own. I wonder if the people who hated the narration, would prefer SOS to agree with them or like it.

Anonymous

I don't understand why people hate it that much. It made the beginning of the invasion so incredibly epic and intense

Minashiro Soushi

Yup, for the most part, people just heard somewhere, that "narration is bad" and "show not tell" and are just parroting it. Narration done bad is bad, narration done good is good - there's time and place for it, and HxH executes pretty well, in my opinion. Next two episodes combined take maybe minute or two of real time and narration does pretty well on "compressing" time.

Yuion

I actually didnt like the narration the first time i watched it and i didnt read the communitys opinions at that time. But when I think about it my real problem is the extreme pacing slowdown that came with it. take i.e. that scene with netero first time doing his move that scene is played from start to finish twice in that episode and takes forever. Everytime I rewatch it i catch myself skipping through all this

Welfin said "the mud from 1 week ago?" when he found Knov's shoes. His scenes all take place in the present... Palms "situation" didn't resolve itself in the past it's happening right now lmao.

Sosbros on Welfin: “His existence is minuscule in the grand scheme of things.” Me: heh

I would say only about 30% of the narration is actually necessary, about 50 is good, but not necessary, and the rest was just pointless, and should have been cut all together. The narrator grew on me on a second watch, as I remember despising him the first time through, after so much build up for this moment, he just slowed the pacing down to an absolute crawl, and that drove me nuts. Especially since most of it wasn't really necessary, imo.

Woodsie89

should have introduced him earlier in my opinion, instead of focusing time on other ants... kinda weird that he was only introduced here, instead of back with the queen like all the other semi important ants.

Lærke

still another TWO episodes before they come out the portal and start fighting. A lot is happening, but the pacing is still going really slow from now on

Stu

That's the beauty of it. Just like real life, a lot can happen in thirty minutes. Add HxH's insane world into the mix and focusing on a mere 30 seconds per episode is brilliant. I'm so pumped for the rest of the arc

Agnus Agnus

Can't wait for the next episode.

Swaybez

2 episodes a week surely can’t be enough especially for this arc & how slow it moves (not that I mind!) but watching 2 eps a week of the CA Arc might have a negative spin on their opinion considering how slow it goes

Kyle Green

Don't forget that it aired one episode a week originally. While I would love to see more than 2 episodes a week, I don't think you need to worry about that.

Woodsie89

Going too fast can be bad as well though, that's what happened to me, I binged this show, and when you fly through it really fast, the start of the palace invasion is like hitting a brick wall. I got extremely irritated at how slow things were suddenly moving it was just such a sudden and dramatic shift that it mostly left me frustrated and annoyed, and unable to really appreciate certain scenes. For example: Spoiler: Netero's back story, while it's good, and needed for really understanding him, and what he is doing, at the time, I just kept thinking "wtf? why are we doing backstory now? we finally got to the invasion, the moment everyone is waiting for, and your'e going to stop in the middle for backstory? I don't need this, I get he is a bad ass, I don't need you to convince me of his badasaness, and op status, I don't need to know how his ability works, I am already expecting it to be amazing and op as hell, you can explain this shit later, just get on with the f*cking story already!" I was so frustrated, because I had gotten used to flying through the story at top speed, that this sudden shift to a snails crawl of a pace, and then anything that would interrupt that (such as a backstory) just really got under my skin, because all I wanted to know was what happened next. Moral of the story? Speeding though it can be just as detrimental to their enjoyment as going too slow, so it's important that they find a good pace, which I think they have, so when they get to that moment, the sudden shift won't be quite as dramatic. It won't feel like slamming face first into a brick wall at 90mph. Anyway, I definitely appreciated this part of the story far more on a second watch then I did my first time through, because after binging it, I was no longer in that "need to know what happened next" mentality, so I could stop to appreciate a lot of the subtleties, that I missed the first time.

Swaybez

Really good point

Garikai

I'm from Britain and since it's past twelve - 1 DAY LEFT

Ghostnotes

but how is that weird though? hxh is an amazing show because it always keeps you on your toes guessing what's gonna happen next and who's gonna be important. why would they wanna spoil it by showing that he's important before the time when he needs to be important? its like your mom telling you dinner is ready and you come down to the table and its not even cooking yet....

Woodsie89

Because every other semi relevant ant was introduced earlier, and he just comes out of nowhere. Not saying he should have had a large part or anything, but would have been nice to see him in the background somewhere at the queens castle.

Kyle Green

He was in the background at the Queen's castle - see the episode where the Queen died. He's one of the ones who joins the group that wants to leave.

Kyle Green

I remember what annoyed me most was their habit of slowing down a scene with a ton of narration and then showing the exact same scene again except in real time. I know the intent was 'well now you have the full context for it' but that drove me mad because I felt that, in most cases, we could have pieced enough of it together even without the narration. I think I might have preferred it if they just didn't repeat the exact same scene or if they trimmed the narration the first time around. Though I still think more of it was necessary than you do. XD
