Gotta give props to Araki (JoJo's creator). Not only did he have the balls to kill supporting characters in a time when that was unthinkable in manga, but kill off the main character of a Shonen anime, something that is still unthinkable. But that's what sets JoJo's apart, as it is no ordinary shonen. It doesn't follow one character, but a series of characters. For at its core JoJo's is a generational saga, with each Part of JoJo's following the adventures of a new member of the Joestar bloodline. Johnathan was merely the starting point, and now it is time for his decedents to enter the spotlight one by one.

Zeppeli said he found the mask in an Aztec temple, and in the Manga the first scene was an Aztec warlord using the mask on himself as a prologue.

in a book he wrote about his creative process("Manga in Theory and Practice: the craft of creating Manga"), he says that forgetting his previous work is how he pushes himself to create something new, and so he doesn't become complacent with his past successes and praise.

reading things from interviews with Araki makes it clear he always intended to have other Jostars, with Jonathan just being the first, to quote: "The title of the series is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, but first and foremost, I actually wanted to draw Dio. Good and Evil, White and Black- Jonathan and Dio function as symbols and are foils for one another. The series had potential to go on, so in my mind, I wanted to create a "first Jostar" that would function as a symbols of purity and dignity rather then a unique, fresh character--"

Part 1 of JoJo's was way longer in the manga but it was a decision of both the director and the author to make it much shorter in the anime. All the details you need to know for the future were in the anime though.

You guys really need to consider doing 2 or more episodes every week for JoJo, especially with part 2 starting next week.
