It was stain killing intent that frozen everyone in fear

RedBoi

Stain's conviction basically made everyone fear him. Even if they were capable of actually beating him, everyone was just in shock and fell over from Stain's conviction alone

Jacky Lin

so Stain is killing those who use their power in the wrong way, hero or villain, i think.

Jacky Lin

so something like a predator's intent, sane people natural fear of those are above them in food chain

Here's a question for you guys didn't think of, why did the flying nomu grap Deku?

Dante Drago

Do you remember how one for all gets transfered?

Anonymous

If you guys want to know why the Winged Nomu singled Deku out to fly off with heres a hint from the Author https://i.redd.it/z027dr378lcz.jpg You guys can decide yourself if you consider it a spoiler but it was something that was pointed out in a extra page by the Author of the manga and has never come up in the story itself so it's not really a spoiler more like a hint on who this Nomu was. If you think finding out who the Nomu is would be a spoiler don't click that link btw, didn't really think of that before posting the link but just editing this in now.

Cricketmilk

It will be explained slightly in the next episode but it looks like commentators have already spoiled the answer to them

Burooj Ahanger

not shigaraki, that nomu acted on his own instinct

Le Duc Théo

Guys, you should read the "Vigilante" spinoff now that it's basically spoiler-free for you, you will get more info about Stain, since everything that happens in Vigilantes is canon! :)

@Justin it wasn't mentioned but it was teased on the second last episode of the season, so i think its abit early for that. Regarding the battle lines its also acts as hints. For example all the battle lines included blood types that directly contributes to this arc.

I don't think that it ever actually comes up in the story at all, there is 0 hints of who that Nomu is and it's more of a sidenote from the Author in the extra pages of the manga. You got a timestamp in the episode that shows how this is hinted? Because they don't really talk about it as far as I know in either the manga or the anime.

I think the guy that Shigaraki talks to gave him the weaker of his six Nomu because remember when Stain is talking with them, he mentions that Shigaraki still needs to grow and learn. So maybe he knew that Shigaraki, acting like a child, WOULD 'fail' at his trying to make a fool of Stain but wanted it to be a lesson for him. Also, Jacob and Caleb, you two are caught up with me! There are so many theories and questions I have - so many just regarding Stain! Like my thought on Stain, was maybe there was a fight and Endeavor used his fire to battle it broke out and whether Stain was a bystander or another hero, there could've been a civilian that nearly got burned alive because of Endeavor's quirk OR he chose to prioritize catching the fleeing criminal over saving the civilian? Gah! I dunno there are too many possibilities lol.

Regarding the blood type thing, it's worth noting that's a big thing in Japanese culture. As in it isn't uncommon on job application forms and stuff like that. Basically the nonsense pseudoscience of ABO blood factor analysis hit Japan at a sensitive moment during post-WW2 cultural reconstruction and never really left.

Shigaraki was surprised to find Midoriya there, so Shigaraki didn't order Nomu to snatch him. As Sofia said the blood type is a big pseudoscience thing in Japanese culture (they think different blood types are linked to different types of personality), but I think Stain's Quirk takes inspiration from blood clotting. Blood types are important in blood transfusions because apparently different types of blood have different biological markers on their cells (type O lacks any) and mixing certain different types of blood makes them clot. The info card around the commercial break in ep 16 revealed Stain's blood type, which is B. This probably is the reason why B types are affected the longest by his Quirk.

Irenesharda

I wouldn't say blood types are nonsense. They are very important medically and scientifically. For jobs, particularly for the insurance part, I can see knowing blood type as being important if anything say happened to you while on the job.

I'm not sure if Stain meant that people can NEVER change, as he already acknowledged that Shigaraki can indeed grow into something different than he is now. But I think he was more commenting on the fact that no one can do a 180 that fast. That if Iida was a "fake" less than 10 minutes ago (remember the fight only took about 10 minutes time), then no one is going to suddenly change and now be a real hero is such a short amount of time. And in a way, he's right, a point to which Iida concedes saying that he indeed has much more that he has to do to grow and that he's just now begun on that path.

Carmadillo

Me, is forever bothered by the fact that when Stain says: 'Someone must set things right - someone must be dyed in blood' they failed to sub it as: 'Someone must be STAINED with blood'. Golden opportunity!! Right there!!1

Princess Paladin

You guys are reading too much into the eyes. He was fully conscious. He just passed out at the end. The eyes being white is just an imagery thing.

Interesting note about the flying Nomu: remember the other bullies from the flashback in the very first episode? Remember how one of them had a pair of large wings? The manga explicitly states that one of the Nomus is one of those bullies.

The thing with endevor, is that he is a shit father who wants to surpass all might, but he is still a great hero. He also recognises that he is not better than all might, which why he want to make shoto better than him and all might. Just because he is an asshole doesn't mean that he is an asshole in everything.

Anonymous

It's strongly hinted at, that the flying nomu is actually Bakugo's flying friend that we saw in season 1. The reason he grabbed Izuku could have been because he recognised him.

Anonymous

Perfect summary of Endeavour. He is an asshole but he's not an asshole in everything.

What Stain did there with the aura is reminiscent of when All Might intimidated Shigaraki and the League of Villains in the S1 finale while bluffing and stalling for time as his form was running out.

Waluigi

I smell a few more hour-hour and a half long discussions in the future... Mwahahahahaha...

Riru (〃^▽^〃)

I may be wrong but the way I interpreted Stain's reaction to Iida's turning over a new leaf is that people can change but not that quickly. Remember that the entire fight took less than 10 minutes. In many ways, I agree with him but in others, I don't. I think people are made up of billions of instances of doing right and wrong things and can't really be classified as being fully fake or not. It's just that some people do more good things than others. Take Izuku for instance. He would have a lot of heroic moments, but we've seen how his actions have negatively affected things like his relationship with Bakugou. Then there's Todoroki, who took out his resentment of his father on Sero during the Sports Festival. Even All Might made some huge borderline selfish mistakes concerning his guidance of Izuku. These three are, ironically, the same people that Stain deemed "worthy to let live."

Irenesharda

I think of course it also depends on how they act when they meet Stain since he only knows them from what he can see at the time. I honestly wouldn't blame Izuku for the status of his relationship with Bakago. Izuku had always been friendly, Bakago was the one with pride the size of Texas and a superiority complex that couldn't handle being challenged. The fault there lies completely with Bakago. His pride and decision that he only felt worth something when he was pushing Deku into the ground is what caused their relationship to go the way it did. Anyway though, Stain does seem to try to test his victims/opponents, so even though he meets them in the moment, he tries to see their true nature. Izuku and Todoroki at that point, both showed themselves heroic even when they had the chance to escape or not get involved, even spilling their own blood. And both also showed a tenacity and strength to challenge him (something Ingenium wasn't able to do). I can also understand Stain's reaction to Iida changing that soon as simply a ploy to save his life. I'm sure Stain has had a victim who would just say what he thinks Stain wants to here just to save his life. That he would pretend to be a true hero into or to escape Stain's "justice" would have been a rather obvious answer.

Bijoushinh

The thing with stain was better explained in the Manga. It wasn't his ability or anything that paralyzed them all it was his sheer determination and his will, his crazy conviction that everyone of them feared in that moment.
