Dungeon from the Void - Book 5 - Chapter 11 - Unexpected but Pleasant Surprise (Patreon)

My routine is interrupted after another week of peace when I find something strange going on within the eighth floor of my dungeon. Where a wall of the dungeon facing to the South caves in, revealing a strange tunnel. One filled with some sort of hive-like substance and a lot of wax.

But I quickly find an intrusive sensation trying to enter my domain that leaves me instinctively feeling angry for some reason.

So I push back at the sensation, sending it flying out of my domain. But the sensation returns once more, trying to push in as if attempting to claim my own domain from me.

“Dawn, I think another dungeon core just broke into the eighth floor,” I comment to her, making her immediately stiffen up and leave Fang’s body mid-fight with a mortal group. Confusing the group quite a bit in the process as she rushes to my core room. “They aren’t very strong though. Not even Tier 2 yet.”

Her panic quickly drops down to practically nothing when she hears that part, letting out a mental sigh as she says, “Please start with that part next time.”

“Right, sorry about that,” I tell her while keeping my attention on the domain that keeps trying to attack my own with absolutely no success. “They also don’t appear to be intelligent.”

That or they’re just stupid. Considering that they’re repeatedly trying to attack my clearly superior domain and control with their weak domain and control. Not even bothering to change up their tactics despite failing more than a few times.

I feel a sense of joy coming across my bond with Dawn, bringing my attention to her as I find her glowing with a green and pink light.

“What has you so excited?” I ask, genuinely curious as to why she is suddenly a ball of excitement. Literally.

“Because you can absorb the core!!!” Dawn immediately exclaims, her voice going practically giddy with her excitement.

I shift my consciousness to my avatar as I teleport through my dungeon to appear on the eighth floor right in front of the new tunnel. Then I stop in front of it and ask Dawn, “And what does that give me?”

She pauses before teleporting right above me and saying, “Absorbing another dungeon core gives you an entire level in Cultivation Level progress in the low Tiers!”

I stare at Dawn as she floats above me for several seconds before turning my attention back to the domain that is still fighting against my own with little to no success. Then I let out a howl, summoning every monster on this floor in this instance to me, following which I begin leading them into the tunnel.

“Well why didn’t you say that from the start,” I comment while walking through the wax-covered tunnels without a care in the world, my entire mind focused solely on getting that core.

“I will warn you though, don’t go around hunting other dungeon cores unless they’re unintelligent or attacked you first,” Dawn comments right as I’m expanding my dungeon’s domain into their tunnel, kicking their own domain back in the process. “The universe doesn’t like that.”

“Got it,” I reply as I begin letting my monsters tear apart the large bees that attempt to attack me as we walk forwards. But none of them are very strong, and after teleporting a mini boss from one of my latest floors here that isn’t seeing any action, we just tear straight through them without me even having to lift a paw to help.

By now my EXP Level is almost at the maximum level for Tier 2, meanwhile my Cultivation Level has just reached CL 17. So if I get this core, it’ll boost it to CL 18, and I’ll just be two levels away from reaching the peak of Tier 2.

Then I can go ahead and enter Tier 3.

That thought alone makes me feel rather happy, almost to the point of Dawn’s giddiness as I march on through the tunnel of the other dungeon. A feat that is made rather easy considering that the highest level monsters facing us are all only about level 8 or 9. It doesn’t even have a level 10 monster.

Come to think of it, didn’t some of the mortals mention that there was an unintelligent dungeon alongside mine within the mountain range I live in? I hope they don’t mind me absorbing the thing.

I blink at that thought before shaking my head.

Then again, they’ll definitely mind it. But that’s not my problem.

At some point along my march the Vampires appear seemingly to check out what’s happening, but they leave just as quickly after realizing what I’m doing. So they obviously don’t care about the core.

Actually, if anything, they looked pleased about this.

Guess they really do want me to grow stronger.

I continue on through the tunnels with my monsters, feeling vaguely surprised that I’m able to extend my domain this far until Dawn explains to me that if I’m taking over another dungeon’s domain then I don’t have to worry about expansion limits on the floor in question. And eventually I appear to reach their dungeon’s main area for this floor.

A main area consisting of a bunch of massive beehives spread across a large, open cavern.

Hmm. That’s a lot of bees.

Almost as if every last bee is swarming out of each of the beehives at once, a massive swarm of bees rushes straight at us from all directions.

So for the first time ever, I open my mouth and use one of the skills my avatar body comes with. And an orb of void energy appears in front of my mouth before expanding and rushing outwards in a powerful breath attack that overwhelms and devours all of the incoming bees.

I nod my head in satisfaction after wiping them out before continuing onwards through the dungeon, spreading my domain all the way while ignoring the Tier 1 core’s instinctive fight against me.

And even with the core sending all of its monsters my way without a single plan, we continue marching.

All the way till we reach the core on the floor beneath this one.
