                                                                   Cassandra
                                                  Year 820 | Month 3 | Day 22

A few hours later

As soon as I open the door to the dining room, I find the eyes of four maids and the king himself turning towards me. And surprisingly, the king actually gives me a nod of respect, instead of an obligatory nod that he normally gives.

Did I impress him with my battle?

That… wouldn’t be a bad thing. Not at all.

I return his nod and greet him, “Good evening, King Valtar.”

What’s also interesting is that the table in the center of the room has no seats on the ends. It only has about nine seats on the two long sides of the table. And the king is sitting on the seat directly in the middle of the table’s right side.

“Good evening, Princess Cassandra,” the king says before motioning for the seat directly across from him. “Please take a seat.”

I nod my head while making my way over to the seat and sitting down, still wearing my gear. Which feels rather odd in a formal setting like this. But considering that the king is doing the same, it looks like it’s fine. Even though I know it’s not the norm here.

Although it’s also possible that the king is just considering this an informal meeting. But knowing the sociopath, I doubt it.

Actually, now that I think about it, where are his-

“My sons will join us at the end of the dinner,” the king says in an emotionless tone of voice. “For now, I would like to settle the details of your stay here before the Conjunction.”

Oh. Okay.

“Very well,” I respond while beginning to eat the food in front of me, which is mostly meat.

The king takes a bite of his food before chewing it and then stating, “You may do as you please in Aulta before the fourteenth of the fourth month, and you’ll have a place to stay in my manor until the day we leave for the Conjunction.”

I nod my head in appreciation and respond, “I appreciate your hospitality, king. For the duration of my stay, I will continue doing jobs as a hunter.”

The man nods his head in silent acknowledgement.

We both turn silent to eat for several minutes before I eventually speak up again, “Do you know what happened to the golem summoner’s corpse?”

King Valtar raises his head and shows a slight frown on his face, but it goes away almost as soon as I notice it and he answers, “You crushed him into a paste. There was no corpse left.”

I barely hide a frown at that.

That’s disappointing.

I was really hoping to use my fangs to absorb some of his stats. After all, it’s not every day that I run into a Tier 3. But if there isn’t a corpse, I can’t get any of the stats.

Over the time that I’ve been able to steal stats with it, I’ve realized that I can actually steal stats from the dead as well. Including the undead. But only physical stats and not mental or magical stats.

So I was really hoping that the golem summoner’s corpse was still intact. Because while it wouldn’t be fun whatsoever to bite the corpse of an intelligent, sapient creature, it would also be a waste to let it go.

Guess I don’t have a choice in the matter either way.

Well, I’ll be able to absorb plenty of stats and earn more EXP during the next almost a month while out hunting.

Time passes and before we know it, we’re both done eating. The food was actually rather good, despite it being quite different from what I was used to in Liathtria. But I guess my time in the Dark Forest eating nothing but monster meat kind of made me used to eating a lot of meat. Not to mention my hunting, since I don’t want to spend money on anything I don’t have to. Meaning hunting my own food instead of buying it.

Which really is an odd mentality to have as a princess, but who cares. It’s something dad and my brothers kept trying to change until they eventually gave up.

A knock sounds from the door I had originally entered the room by, followed by a woman’s voice, “Pardon my, your majesty, your highness, but the princes are here.”

I glance at the door before looking at the king again as he answers, “Let them in.”

The door then opens to reveal a maid along with two soldiers and the two princes. Both of whom are close to the peak of Tier 2.

“Greetings, Princess Cassandra,” both of the twins say at the same time with little to no emotion on their face. Only a little bit more than their father’s.

I give them both a nod before standing up from my chair and – according to the customs of royal meetings between princes and princesses – reach my right hand out while placing my left hand on my sword’s hilt. Prince Thrainn de Alheim returns my greeting in the same way by grabbing my hand and raising it to his lips. His twin, Prince Thórir de Alheim then repeats the gesture.

Both of the princes have a small amount of admiration in their gazes, unlike the empty gazes they would all give me whenever we met at Conjunctions. Probably because I’m stronger than them now.

Now that I think about it… I glance at my fingers, which are claw free right now.

If I hadn’t figured out on accident that I could in fact retract my claws as well, and not just my fangs, that could’ve been awkward.

The two princes turn to look at their father as I return to my seat. But what they say causes me a little surprise.

“Father, we’ve gotten word that more invaders have shown up in Grand Jarl Tókison’s region,” prince Thrainn says with a frown. This causes the king pause for a second before the other prince adds, “But these invaders are different.”

Different?

I frown at the two.

“These invaders are not attacking us and instead wish to come to an agreement.”
